This weekend saw confirmation that both of our YDL teams (U13/15 and U17/20) have won promotion to the next higher division this year. This means that our younger team will be placed in division South1, and our older team in division South2 offering new challenges and an even higher level of competition.

Our best wishes for every success in 2014 to the YDL manager Frank Schubert and all the young athletes who contributed.

The Magnificent 7 deliver for K&P - YDL Upper age group Print

The deadly combination a trip to Poole and public exam left K&P with only 7 athletes for the second round match on 16th May. However the seven we had were truly magnificent and gathered an average of 24 points each. With parents pitching in to make sure K&P garnered the full 35 points for providing officials, the team ended the day in fifth position - a very good result in the circumstances. Although we have slipped down the league from second to fourth, we remain very much in touch with the teams in third and second. We hope that the end of exams and the fact that next match is at Kingsmeadow on 28th June will mean we can get a bigger team out and place better.

Surrey Ladies League Cross Country, Match 1 Report – 13 th October 2018 Print

The opening races of the new season took place at Wimbledon Common in warm sunny conditions on 13 th October 2018. Our ladies enjoyed a dry and undulating course over 6.9 kilometres, a little longer than the usual distance for the first race.

Despite some long-term injuries affecting several of the ladies team, it was pleasing to have a squad of 5 on the start line. A close battle between our veteran team members saw Liz Richardson, continuing her return to former fitness, lead the team home in 75 th place (34:08). Following closely behind was Nicky Atkins in 78 th place (34:36). A little further back Nicki Murphy raced well after recovering from breaking her foot a few months ago to finish with a time of 36 minutes 10 for 104 th place.

A close battle between our senior ladies saw another exciting finish - with Jo Murphy, returning to< racing after starting her family, finishing in 38:29 (140 th place) just ahead of Harriet Lester in 38:37 (143 rd place). In a seemingly ever-growing field of 239 Division 2 athletes, the team finished in 16 th place out of 22 teams and look forward to improving their position in the league over the season.
