Following a very successful fundraising campaign, which included grants from RBK and Sport England. all members over the age of 16 now have access to our own Free Weight Gym at Kingsmeadow. The gym is open seven days a week in line with the Centre opening hours of Monday to Thursday 7.30am to 10pm, Friday 7.30am to 8pm and weekends 9am – 5pm. There are four levels of membership:
Named people in the club who are UKA Coaches or who hold a recognised gym instructor or personal trainer qualification. They will have responsibility for setting and overseeing weight programmes of users, and requesting the review of a members level to the Gym management group.
Expert lifters: People, who are highly competent lifters, will set their own weights schedule and are over 18 and are able to lift with other level 1 or 2 members.
Able lifters: People who have a rudimentary understanding of lifting and able to lift within their capabilities but would require a weights programme to be supplied by a level 1 member. Level 3 members can only use the gym with a level 1 or 2 member is present. Age range: 16 and over.
All other club members who need to undergo an introductory weight lifting programme to be taught how to lift. They can only use the gym when a level 1 member is in attendance. Age range: 13 and over.
Only qualified coaches will be able to work with members who are level 3 and 4. A qualified coach is anyone who is a UK Athletics Coach who has a current CRB check, or anyone who has a recognised gym instructor or personal trainer qualification and is on the Register of Exercise Professionals. Coaches do not have to be members of K&P.
If you would like to join the gym please complete the registration process (https://www.jctsportssolutions.com/event-booking/subs) and pay your annual subs of £60 via PayPal. You will then be invited to attend an induction for the gym where your level of membership will be confirmed and you will be asked to complete a health statement.
