Last year we had a successful debut in division 1, but several of the key team members have since moved up to the upper age group. Yet, the K&P U13/U15 team with a mixture of newcomers and experienced athletes from last year proved again well up to the competition. Throughout the first match in Hillingdon there was a close battle between 3rd and 6th place, and the end result was a solid mid-table position for our team. Well done everyone, particularly the many athletes who held their nerves in their first ‘big competition’ YDL experience.

A turnout of 37 athletes altogether was good, but still left a number of events not filled. Nearly everyone achieved PB’s and the quality was further demonstrated by the number of AAA graded results: Grade 4’s from Jessica Lillywhite (75m, 150m), Amy Counihan (200m), Darcy Bourne (LJ), Annabel Hobday (300m, 800m), Jasmine Woodroffe (HJ), Freddy Crosby (HJ), Aaron Marlow (JT, SP), Thomas White (100m), Sam Shaw (300m, 800m), Jack Westley (PV), Beckett Whiting (80H), grade 3’s from Amelia Bell (200m), Lucy Tunnacliffe (75H), Aaron Marlow (HJ), Thomas White (200m), Sol Harris-Woodfin (800m), excellent grade 2’s from Olly Wilson (800m) and Zak Wort (1500m).

Thanks to everyone for their help during the match, in particular our track judge Colin Watts, timekeeper Maurice Joyce, and our field official team of Cathy Arnfield, James Bell, Gill Broderick, Susanne Dietrich, Beverly and Paul Tunnacliffe, Susan Hobart.

Our team:

U13 Girls: Bronwyn Ackroyd, Emilia Chittenden, Katie Harrison, Kira Holt, Freya John, Jessica Lillywhite, Zoe Shepherd, Gemma Watts

U15 Girls: Hetty Arnfield, Eleanor Bartle, Kathryn Bartle, Amelia Bell, Darcy Bourne, Imogen Busa, Amy Counihan, Annabel Hobday, Hannah Lester, Lucy Tunnacliffe, Jasmine Woodroffe

U13 Boys: Freddy Crosby, Sebastian Chang, Dylan Dyson-Holland, Matteo LeForestier, Aaron Marlow, Michael Webb-Bourne, Thomas White, Olly Wilson

U15 Boys: Jorge Beltrao, Tiago Beltrao, Ben Collier, Charlie Dugdale, Sol Harris-Woodfin, Luke Newell, Sam Shaw, Jack Westley, Beckett Whiting, Zak Wort

Athletes of the match: U13 girls Jessica Lillywhite, U13 boys Aaron Marlow, U15 girls Annabel Hobday, U15 boys Zak Wort.

The scores of the first match show the top 7 teams relatively close together. This gives us room to improve and push for the top half of the table. It also, however, leaves us dangerously close to the relegation zone – two clubs will get relegated this year. Hopefully some top performers who missed the first match will be available in match 2, and with a larger turnout we can fill most of the remaining gaps in the team.

The next YDL match is on Saturday 30 May at Guildford Spectrum.
