Lily B - Match 2 Print

After great first match-day win it was always going to be difficult to match those heights and with many athletes out (hockey & netball trials, injuries and also the YDL the following day) those who made it, to Walton, did their best to fill in events and help out the team.

Even though it was a very hot day, which made it difficult for the athletes to compete at their best, there were quite a few PBs. Some of the PBs were down to the fact that a number of competitors were attempting new events or indeed were new comers to our Lily B team. These, along with all of our results, added up to another emphatic victory of over 100 points!

Once again we had a good turn out for the under 11’s with 3 girls trying out sprints, 600m or Long Jump. We hope they keep this up as this is good practise for next year when we will be relying on them to compete for points in the U13’s.

Our U13 team of 7, which included 2 newcomers (Rachel Keddie and Florence Polwin), brought home 8 PBs in total. PBs were for Jessica Lillywhite (200m), Florence Polwin (200m), Rachel Keddie (Discus) and Zoe Shepherd (Shot Putt). A special mention to Gemma Watts (1500m & High Jump) and Isabel Bibby (70mH & Javelin) for achieving 2 PBs each on the day. The Relay for the U13 girls was very exciting with K&P just pipping Epsom & Ewell for 2nd place. Well done girls.

We had another strong turnout for the U15’s with a total of 11 girls. Three girls got single PBs on the day, Annaliese Cogoli-Bell (Long Jump), Lucy Tunnacliffe (Discus) and Annabel Hobday (Javelin) who also won the 800m A-string with yet another strong performance. Our special mention for the U15’s goes to Caroline Stolz with 2 PBs (75mH & Shot Putt). A final mention goes to Amy Valentine for a non-scoring PB in the 200m. The event of the day for the U15’s was probably the 4x100m Relay who came second with an untried foursome with a fast time of 53.5s.

For our U17’s our team of 9 was superior to most of the other teams and we picked up quite a few wins. In fact there were 21 wins including the 4x100m Relay. Amongst these there were 10 PBs; Isabella Busa (800m, Javelin & Long Jump), Rebecca Keddie (200m & 300m), Alex Shaw (300m & 1500m), Rhianna Reynolds (80mH), Chloe Kimber (Long Jump) and Leila Legris (300mH). A special mention to Isabella for getting 3 PBs in one day!

Some people had events very close together and for me the athlete of the day was Rebecca Keddie who ran 200m, 800m, 300m and then the relay almost one after the other (not sure on the order). Remarkable really picking up many valuable points for the team.

Athlete of the match T-shirts to Gemma Watts (U13), Caroline Stolz (U15) & Rebecca Keddie (U17).

Thank you also to Frank, Maurice, Beverley Tunnacliffe, John and Dorinda Lester (and myself!) for helping out on the day with official duties and team management. A thank you also to Nicole Kendall for providing some coaching and helping out during the day. A big thank you to Julie & Mary for organising the teams and the management on the day. Please accept my apologies if I have missed anyone.

Two big wins so far is a good start but next up we will be up against our biggest rivals Guildford & Goldalming and Herne Hill Harriers so we will be relying on a good turn out for match-day 3 (25th July) so that we can ensure to make the top 4 for the Finals day at the end of August.

Thanks to you all

James
