Good 2nd place for U13/U15 YDL team

Bolstered by the away win in Guildford, our U13/U15 YDL team went into the home match with high hopes. Unfortunately, the team was already weakened by a clash with a major schools’ competition. Bad luck on the day in some of our strongest events cost us further points, and half way through the match we were down in 4th place. Yet, a remarkable fight back from the athletes and the commitment of many helpers to work as our officials got the team back into a well-deserved 2nd place.

46 K&P athletes, our largest turnout this season, took part in the home match. It was particularly good to see a number of new athletes in their first competition. All of our athletes performed superbly, with new SB’s or PB’s and a large number of AAA graded results: Grade 4 for Lucy Atkkns (LJ), Sophie Doherty (150m), Jemima Harcourt (HJ), Kira Holt (150m, 70H), Freya John (75m), Zoe Shepherd (SP), Louisa Stoney (LJ), Jasmine Woodroffe (HJ), Max Dickson (200m), Dominic Fellows (200m), Kai Mason (HJ), Ben Ashmore (200m), Jack Dickson (300m), Matthew Hall (800m), Luke Newell (JT), Jack Stracey (800m), Eric Williams (1500m), Olly Wilson (800m); Grade 3 for Kira Holt (HJ), Freya John (800m), Evie Wilkinson (1200m, 70H), Amelia Bell (200m), Lucy Tunnacliffe (300m), Jasmine Woodroffe (75H), Sebastian Chang (JT), Max Dickson (800m), Liam Macdonald (80H), Ben Collier (1500m) ; excellent Grade 2 for Lucy Atkins (75m), Louisa Stoney (HJ), Lucy Tunnacliffe (75H, SP), Liam Macdonald (HJ) and Grade 1 for Ben Ashmore (LJ).

Thanks to all parents for their help and support during the match, and in particular to our track judge Colin Watts, timekeepers Stewart Dickson and James Bell, and our field official team of Susanne Dietrich, Ulrike Chang, Sarah Chittenden, Louise Doherty, Renzo Di Libero, Dorinda Lester, Reema Mason, Paul Tunnacliffe, Peter Waddington, Richard White and Andy Wilkinson who again earned us the full 55 officals’ points, which were crucial to secure 2nd place.

Our team:

U13 Girls: Lucy Atkins, Alix Baccardax, Emilia Chittenden, Sophie Doherty, Jemima Harcourt, Kira Holt, Freya John, Jojo Mclean, Evie Wilkinson

U15 Girls: Amelia Bell, Imogen Busa, Katie Harrison, Hollie Hennessy, Hannah Lester, Jessica Lillywhite, Zoe Shepherd, Louisa Stoney, Lucy Tunnacliffe, Gemma Watts, Jasmine Woodroffe

U13 Boys: Sebastian Chang, Max Dickson, Dominic Fellows, Evan Hughes, Liam Macdonald, Kai Mason, Akash Sohal, Alfie Westley

U15 Boys: Michael Anderson, Ben Ashmore, William Bourne, Ben Collier, Freddy Crosby, Jack Dickson, Dylan Dyson-Holland, Luke Houllier, Flynn Kendall, Aaron Marlow, Luke Newell, James O’Brien, Jack Stracey, Jack Westley, Thomas White, Eric Williams, Tom Williams, Olly Wilson

Athletes of the match: U13 girls Kira Holt, U13 boys Max Dickson, U15 girls Louisa Stoney, U15 boys Ben Ashmore.

With the result of the third match, we are still in 4th place in our division but have reduced the gap to Crawley and Dorset. While Guildford & Godalming are now two points ahead, and probably out of reach, another good performance in the final match should secure our best ever YDL result in division 1.

The next YDL match is on Saturday 16 July in Walton.
