Match 3 of the Northern Surrey ‘Downs’ Cross Country League for runners aged 8 to school year 10.

Dear athletes, families and friends,
The provisional results of last Sunday’s Downs League match are now available. They need to be double-checked since two discs had not been collected in the U11 race, skewing the results. Moreover, one non-scoring runner each ran in the U13 and U15 races. But what I am reporting is about right.
We are now entering the final phase of the season’s Downs Cross Country League, and as team manager I was very pleased indeed to welcome a number of new runners. This very much reinforced the teams - to great effect in particular for our U15 rankings. It was much needed, too, since we missed some household names due to other sports events, school holidays and illness. I hope that for the last race on 12 March we’ll be able to come out in full force since we can win team and individual medals. Moreover, the race will be our very own K&P club champs, too – make sure your club subs are paid to be eligible.
Our U11s were brought home by a massively improved Oscar Lloyd-Davies who carved 28s off his PB to finish in 11:38 and 11th place. He was followed by Ava John with a new PB of 12:28 (10s off) and 26th place/6th girl, Hannah Choudhury with a new PB of 12:47 (3s off) and 30th place/ 7th girl, and Oscar Nicholas, with a new PB of 13:01 (7s off) and 32nd place. Ella Slone had an excellent debut, finishing in 13:34 and 41st place/15th girl; it was great to have Samuel Hall back, finishing in 13:36 and 42nd place, and then it was Finnian Chang in 52nd place and 14:13 and Brody Skinner with a new PB in 14:17 (9s off) and 54th place. All runners had very strong finishes, often picking up a few runners as they came in. This is excellent news, considering that the shorter summer track races are just around the corner, too. The team was pipped into 5th place by 1 point, but held 4th place overall. In the individual rankings (must run all races), Oscar L.D. is 8th, Oscar N. 16th, Finnian 17th and Brody 19th boy; Ava is 2nd girl and Hannah is 3rd girl, both with an excellent prospect to have a medal round the neck the next time.
Our U13s very much established themselves in the 2nd team position, they came 2nd on the day and are 2nd overall, probably too far to catch the 1st team, HHH, but also quite clear of the 3rd, Holland Sports. Max Dickson was the first to finish, 8th place and 12:05. Michael Webb-Bourne is clearly back from injury, finishing 13th with a new PB of 12:52 (6s off). Next was Dominic Fellows in 15th place and 13:03 and Evie Wilkinson in 16th place/5th girl and13:09, followed by Freya John in 23rd place/ 10th girl and 13:22. Freya wins the “athlete of the match” recognition, for the improving her previous best by a full 43s. We closed with Alix Baccardax in 13th place/ 19th girl and 14:19, Jacob Skinner in 38th place and 14:27 and Esme Cerilli in 45th place/ 26th girl and 16:28. The boys hold 5th (Max), 7th (Michael), 9th (Dom) and 13th (Jacob) place in the overall rankings; the girls are 1st (Evie), 6th (Freya), 7th (Alix) and 10th (Esme); a great result!
And now: drum roll, and let’s open the curtain for our U15s! Jack Dickson, 3rd in 11:20, Jack Stracey 4th in a new PB of 11:33 (5s off), Eric Williams 5th in 11:35, Oliver Haines-Francis 6th in 11:37, new runner William Bourne 15th in 13:20 and Imogen Busa 23rd/ 10th girl in 15:38. This was the 2nd team-win for us and it brought us the overall lead – but only by a skimpy 3 points. I very much hope that you’ll be up for it, and we’ll battle it out with HHH in the last match! Let’s win this! And with Jack D. in overall 3rd and Jack S. in 4th place, there might be more silverware coming our way. Come on, Kingston and Poly!
Many thanks again to all athletes for their great efforts, and all families for their support. Please let me know that you are coming for the last race on Sunday 12th March, same race times as before.
Best regards
