Here is TM Frank Schubert's report on the final match of the season, together with an overview of the campaign this summer.

The last competitions at the end of the school year are always difficult, and the NYAL match on 18 July in Watford was no exception. Holidays and injuries took their toll on our team, but some of the gaps were ably filled by new squad members. Hosts Chiltern right from the start made it clear that they were to win, but the fight was on for second place. During the match we seemed to be neck and neck with TVH, but in the end we were very comfortably 80 points ahead to finish the season with a good 2nd place. Final scores:
Chiltern 580 points
Kingston & Poly 440 points
Thames Valley Harriers 360 points
Just as in the previous matches, key to the team success was the willingness of our athletes to fill all possible (and impossible) events to gain points for the team. We also won 17 events despite missing several of our most successful athletes, and collected a large number of very good 2nd and 3rd places. Our athletes could yet again celebrate a massive number of PBs and quite a few excellent performances. We had AAA grade 4 results from Natasha Baugh (HJ), Ellé Butcher (150m), Laura Darcey (70H), Stephanie Mitchell (70H), Lauren Edwards (HJ), Nicole Kendall (PV), Gaby Orlich (DT, SP), Rahannah Gillette-Vernon (JT), and Kiran Richards (DT, SP). Nicole Kendall added a grade 3 in the 75H, while William van Klaveren achieved grade 3 in SP and grade 2 in DT. The icing on the cake were our first top-class grade 1 performances for this season by Ellé Butcher (800m) and Willam van Klaveren (JT).
Our team for the day were:
U13G: Natasha Baugh, Ellé Butcher, Eva Clarke, Laura Darcey, Issy Eno, Stephanie Mitchell, Fehinti Ogungbesan, Frances Rennie
U15G: Marlie Carter-Edwards, Lauren Edwards, Prerana Kaneri, Nicole Kendall, Bridget Langford, Jenny Miles, Gaby Orlich, Bryony Ross, Vanessa Saunders, Ella Shaw
U17W: Olivia Eyles, Rahannah Gillette-Vernon, Charlotte Merrifield, Gaby Miles
U13B: William Dawson, Gian Hobbs, Oliver Phelps, Michael Udemba, Rory Vassall
U15B: Matthew Broderick, Tom Dawson, Nick Hart, Matt W Stevens, William van Klaveren, Sam Vassall
U17M: Marc Arrogah, Stefan Clarke, Adam Curran, Matthew Elmore, Aidan Fahey, Nicholas Koh, Kiran Richards, Nikolaj Schubert
Big thanks go to everybody who supported the team, in particular Lyn Edwards for her help with the team management, Jeannette Akua, Gill Broderick, Susanne Dietrich and Tony Hart who officiated in the field, and most of all Clare Nelson and David Barrington who drove the minibuses and worked as track officials all day.
All four matches went really well with one 1st and three 2nd places. Remarkably we have beaten all but three clubs in our division – including runners up Wycombe – and did not lose any match. The overall position in the league table is based on the accumulated match points, which puts us into mid-league position in 6th place just 3.5 points behind Camberley. Thames Valley Harriers are relegated from our division, and not surprisingly Bracknell go up into the Premier division.
The results of this season have demonstrated that we have formed a strong team of highly committed athletes. Altogether more than 80 athletes contributed to the NYAL team during the year, with nearly half competing in at least 3 matches. Only very few athletes will move up to the U20’s next year, and some of our best and most consistent athletes were just first year in their respective age groups – a great prospect for the 2011 season.
Our Athletes of the Match this season, awarded for the best performance of the day were:
Match 1: Stephanie Mitchell (70H) and William van Klaveren (DT)
Match 2: Rahannah Gillette-Vernon (JT) and Tucker Bryant (100m)
