The 'End-of-Season High Note"!

LILY B MATCH –The Cup Final, Ewell Court 18th September

Once again the weather was kind to us and the final took place under sunny skies. The team have had a wonderful season and our largest team of the season including 4 (U17s) meant we had high hopes of a top three finish. However our expectations were surpassed when, at the end of a long day it was announced that we had WON by just 5.5 points.

This victory was the result of the fantastic team spirit and willingness of everyone to fill in so we covered the maximum number of events, every single point was vital as it was such a hard fought match.

On the day there were 32 new PB’s and 17 outright event wins with people discovering new talents in events they had never tried before

The victory laps at the end were well deserved and it has been a real pleasure to be involved which such a fantastic group of athletes over the summer.

The outstanding race in this age group was the 800m where Nadia Allan and Elle Butcher both broke the club record which had stood for more than 22 years. Elle won the race in 2.27.6 with Nadia not far behind in 2.30.3. A fantastic run by both girls and a great way to end the season. Nadia also achieved new PB’s in the 100m (14.4) and the LJ (4.19).

Much to her surprise Caitlin won the Discus with a throw of 16.73m, also a new PB. Laura Darcey won her hurdles with a new PB of 13.4 and also set a new best time for 1500m of 5.55.9. Nina won the B long jump and finished 2nd in the B 100m.

Despite suffering with her asthma Frances bravely finished the 1500m. Stephanie finished 3rd in the A hurdles and set a new PB in the 100m of 15.3. Natasha set a new best in the 200m (32.6) and improved her HJ to 1.25, (an improvement of 10cm) to finish 4th.

Ellie Manhire finished 2nd in both the A Shot and javelin, setting a new best in the latter of 17.99. Elizabeth also set a new PB in the Shot of 3.24.

Several people took part in non scoring events which resulted in yet more end of season bests. Elizabeth and Jerene both did 100m and LJ. Elizabeth achieving 17 seconds and 2.82m. Jerene also achieved 17seconds for the 100m and 2.55m for the LJ.

The outstanding event in this age group was the HJ where Lauren and Nicole both improved their PB to 1.45m, a big improvement for both of them. Lauren finished 3rd in the A whilst Nicole won the B.

Nicole also won the A 200m and finished 2nd in the A 75m hurdles. Lauren was 3rd in the A 100m with Mae 4th in the B 100m. Mae also finished 3rd in the A javelin and ran the 1500 achieving a new PB of 5.59.4, she was joined by Laura Cook who also ended with a seasons best of 5.38.3.

Layla finished 2nd in the 800m in a PB of 2.28.2 whilst Bridget finished 6th in the same race. Layla also finished 4th in the A Discus with another PB of 13.67.

Bryony finished 4th in both the LJ and 200m whilst Vanessa finished 2nd in the B 75 hurdles.

In the throws Marlie surprised herself by winning the B hammer with 11.55, not bad for a first attempt!! She also finished 4th in the B LJ and 4th in the B Javelin.

Alex finished a close second in the A hammer and 4th in the A Shot. Prerana finished 2nd and 3rd in the B Shot and Discus.

The 4x100m relay was a very exciting and close run event ending in victory and a season’s best time.

In the non scoring events Lauren achieved a new PB in the LJ of 3.85 whilst Alex did an 800m and improved her PB to 2.51.2.

The fact we had double the normal team made a big difference gaining us valuable extra points.

Olivia and Charlotte concentrated on the sprints and jumps whilst Maura and Rahannah covered the throws as usual.

Olivia was 5th in the 100m (15.6), 3rd in the 300m (53 and a new PB) and 4th in the TJ (7.43).

Charlotte was 5th in the 200m (32.2), 4th in the HJ (1.30) and 4th in the LJ (3.22).

Maura was 3rd in the A Shot (5.66) 1st in the B Discus (12.7) and 1st in the B Javelin (24.24).

Despite hurting her back in her first event Rahannah carried on competing and finished 1st in the A Javelin (28.54), 2nd in the B Shot (3.7) and 3rd in the A Discus (13.18).

Six under 11’s took part in a variety of events and there were some very encouraging performances, particularly from those who will be moving up to U13 next year.

Jessica Raymond achieved 15.4 for 75m and a new PB in the LJ of 2.51.

Eleanor Bartle ran 12.7 for the 75m, a new PB followed by another PB of 25.5 for the 150m.

Kathryn Bartle did really well in her first competition since she broke her arm achieving three new PB’s in the 75m, 13.4, 150m 27 seconds and the 600m, 2.18.8.

Sophia Free also got a new PB in the 600m of 2.12.7.

Once again Mollie O’Sullivan won her 600m race in a time of 2.00.5, she also 2nd in her 150m race, 24.5.

Leila Allan jumped 2.71 in the LJ.

The girls have all been brilliant and the wonderful team spirit and willingness to give anything a go have made this the most successful season for a long time.
