Report from Richmond Park

A great first race of the season for the Surrey Ladies League. A fairly good turnout but a few no shows (and even a facebook message while I was warming up to say they couldn't run!!) but we also welcomed a new face to the senior ladies, a familiar face back to the vets and Nadia to the u13s.

The first race as usual was the Senior Ladies. First home was myself in 23rd followed by our new lady, Anna Brooks in 37th. Nicky Atkins came in soon after in 42nd and Susanne in 56th. To complete the scoring team was Nicki Murphy in 64th, who hasn't been able to join us for a few seasons. Avelline was our final athlete in 71st. There were 150 division 2 finishers although in the whole first race, a very large field of 326 athletes finished.

General comment after the race was that it was "a hard course" but maybe we get used to the club champs which are so short using that course!!(K&P dont do wimpy courses!! Ed.) At least it didn't rain and although warm for those running only a little chilly for our supporters and officials. We came 6th team of 20 which I think is extremely respectable. Not much outlook for promotion next year at this stage but we also have 2 ladies we hope to be back from maternity leave in the new year.

We had 3 U15 runners

Layla Thompson ran extremely well to finish 3rd in 16mins 09. Laura Cook 17th and Mae Thompson 20th. One more athlete and they have a full team. They all looked very strong as they finished and were 6th team of 9.

Just one u13 athlete, Nadia Allan who hasn't run in this league before. She ran very well and finished 10th of 28 finishers. Hopefully we can get more U13s out for the next race to give her some moral support.

Thank you to all the officials for helping out on the day in whatever capacity, marshalling, time keeping, flagging, results etc and David Barrington for organising it so smoothly - well I didn't notice any hiccups! I enjoyed the day and also helping to enter the results into the database with Rachel. Excel still amazes me what you can do with it!

Next league race is November 13th at Denbies. Lets hope we don't have as much rain as last year!!!
