Surrey League- Match 2- Wimbledon Common
Saturday 13th November 2010
Last Saturday saw the second Surrey League match at Wimbledon Common.
Despite worries that people may have trouble locating the start, point things actually seemed to go relatively smoothly.
It was a fairly fast course this one, and you had to be on the ball at all times else it would have been easy to slip and fall. Good cross country conditions though and quite good fun!
Phillip Bearman was the only K&P member who ran in the junior race and he placed an excellent 5th, only a minute or so behind the race winner. Well done.
In the senior race, Jamie McCullagh (18th) and George Corcoran (19th) were our first runners home, with only a second between them. Andy Arbour wasn’t too far behind (25th) and he was followed by a big group of us, Richard Mathie (29th), Matt Hyett (32nd), Mike Maranzano (34th), Michael Huntley (36th), Tony Macdowall (38th) and Ron Taylor (49th). Peter Wilkins got a good time and was our final scorer in 91st. It was really encouraging to see us all pushing each other to do well.
Completing our line up were Ant Budarkiewicz, Bob McDonough, David Greenfield, Mark Brennan, Graham Huntley, Dave Gibbons and Geoff Reed. Excellent to see another sizeable turnout.
In the end K&P placed 4th out of 9, which I think is pretty good and at this mid way point we’re well positioned to do really well. Next League match is at Epsom Downs, mid Jan - full details to follow in the coming weeks - let’s try and push back into 3rd, and maybe even better!
Thanks to everyone who ran. Thanks also to Cashel Riordan and Mike May for cheering us on.
Matt
