Round Up from Frank Schubert - Full Results - www.surreyathletics.org.uk
Here is the report on the Surrey County XC Champs.
Sadly, we had many late withdrawals due to illness and injury, and on the day some more athletes fell ill. This is unfortunate, but really, at this time of year,it’s what happens. However, I ‘m pleased to report that those who were fully fit to run did well indeed.
The day began with a depleted U13 boys’ team inspecting a very waterlogged course. Those who had forgotten their spikes (had I not said in many mails that the course asks for spikes…?!) knew that it would be slippery, and the course exceeded expectations. Neil Wellard on his 1st ever Surrey’s brought the team home in 40th place, Harry Robinson came 60th and Oliver Phelps, still battling knee problems, came 70th.
Our U13 girls were all novices on the course. Elle Butcher came 32 th, Laura Darcey 37th, and with an unbelievably strong run, U11 Mollie O’Sullivan finished 46th. The highlight of the race was certainly Nadia Allan’s finish – she outsprinted some 4 runners to come 19th.
Of our U15 boys, Sam Vassall was the last man standing. He had a very fine run and finished 31st.
For our U15 girls, it was great to see Jenny Miles back in action. With a strong run, she brought the team home in 27th place, followed by Bridget Langford 30th, Mae Thompson 33rd, Alice Clemens 35th, Ella Shaw 39th, Laura Cook 41st and Olivia Njae 52nd, closely followed by Layla Thompson who bravely battled sickness to finish the course; overall the team finished 6th.
Our U17 men reinforced their Tiffin School team, with Nikolaj Schubert finishing 34th and Adam Curran 36th.
In the Under 20s Womens race, we were jubilant to see Molly Renfer come 6th in the U20 ,which will allow her to represent the County in the upcoming Intercounties in Birmingham.
Ciaran Costello,running for Tiffins,was 13th(32.36) in the Under 20 mens event,in a smallish field.
Nicky Atkins was our sole runner in the Senior Womens, completing in 53rd(39.12) out of 99 finishers.,whilst we had just two competitors in the Senior Men,with Richard Mathie first home in 42nd(47.36),backed up by Mens Sec,Matt Hyett,in 77th(50.20).179 finished.
Well done everybody!
