Yesterday saw the third Surrey League match of the season at Newlands Corner, near Guildford.
It has been a number of years since the team last ran at this venue, the last time being before I had joined the club. I thought the course was quite good all in all- quite quick with stretches of downhill running. When it did get hilly, it did get hilly, however, and I’m sure we’ll all remember the climb at the end of each lap. It felt like being punched in the stomach.
Back from Germany, Mark Reed ably led the team home in 23rd. He was immediately followed by a group of three other K&P runners, Jamie McCullagh (24th) (who did very well considering he was recovering from illness), Andy Arbour (25th), and Michael Huntley (26th). Well done chaps, a particularly good run from Michael, placing much higher this match.
Next in was myself in 42nd, closely followed by Tony MacDowall (55th) and Ant Budarkiewicz (58th). Completing the K&P line up were Bob McDonough, Peter Wilkins, Graham Huntley, Geoff Reed and David Barrington.
In terms of this match we finished 7th out of 9. However overall we are in a fairly strong 4th place, which is still quite good.
My thanks to everyone who attended, particularly those who travelled far and who were battling illness. I hope in our final match of the season we can finish strongly and would be good to get everyone out for this.
Next matches are the Club 9 on 5th February and the final League match on 12th. Further details to follow over the next couple of weeks.
