Surrey Ladies Cross Country 15/01/11 Ham Lands

After a very cold Christmas period, a week of rain made our third match course at Ham Lands a rather muddy one. I’ve never run here since my time at K&P but enjoyed the flatness of it. The wind kept the day fresh but the temperature was fairly mild, with views of the River Thames and Teddington Lock.

We had a great turnout of athletes in the women’s race and the U15s.

Nicky A led out team home in 35th followed by myself (having got a stitch again!) in 38th while Liz, collapsing over the line, was our third scorer in 47th. Susanne (61st) and Nicky M (64th) closely followed and completing our team Natalie Sacre did a debut run (and she enjoyed it!) finishing in 73rd, with guest Rosaline Darby 5 places behind and now eagerly considering joining K&P! We all finished within 5mins of each other and worked well as a team, helping each other along. We were 8th team in Division 2 on Saturday but currently lie in 6th place – an achievement we should be really pleased about. 150 division 2 finishers of a 315 strong field.

There were no u17s but we had FIVE u15s. Layla had a very impressive run finishing in 2nd place with sister Mae in 9th. Bridget Langford (15th) and Laura Dunkling (17th) ran their first ever Surrey League race (but I don’t think they liked the mud much!) And Laura Cook closely followed behind in 19th. 27 finishers. The team was 2nd on Saturday by 2 points and currently lie in 4th after 3 matches. We could finish 2nd girls if you all make it to the last race – 12th Feb Putney Vale.

Just one u13 athlete again. Nadia Allan running a very fine race to finish in 11th of 35. It was a very close fast race (they all finished within 4mins of each other) and the girls were sprinting to the finish!

Thanks to Rachel for the scrummy lemon cake afterwards. Apologies to her hubby Nathan as there was none left for him!

SO, to our last race -  let’s get a great turnout and show how strong K&P is.
