Surrey Ladies Cross Country League Race 4 report

A sunny day (the best of the weekend!) after a lot of rain in the days beforehand left Putney Vale and Wimbledon Common rather muddy!

Seniors

I was happily expecting 8 athletes in the Senior & Vet race. A debut for Jo Bourne, and Rosaline Darby has now joined K&P too. We also welcomed back Johanna Gibbons from maternity absence. The course was about 8.5k and had everything a cross country race should have except a stile or a gate to climb over! Supporters were Rachel, Jessica and Dave B himself - thankyou!

First K&P home in Division 2 was Jo Bourne in 16th (40:45) followed immediately by myself in 40:55. Third was Nicky A after having raced for a number of weekends previously finishing 29th (43:18) and Liz R 41st (45:00). Nicki M completed our scoring A team 44th (45:21).

Susanne came home first for the B team 50th (45:36) with Rosaline 72nd (48:58) and Johanna should be very pleased with finishing the longest and hardest race of the season having had a baby recently, 111th (56:04).

There were 145 finishers in Division 2 with 303 completing the senior race in both divisions. On Saturday we were 4th A team and 4th B team!! After all 4 matches we were easily 5th. It would appear that Clapham Chasers will be promoted to division 1 with Ful on Tri while Striders of Croydon and Belgrave get demoted to Division 2. TBC.

Juniors

Just 3 consistent and reliable u15s ran for K&P on Saturday and good runs from each. Layla Thompson was 4th home in 18:26 while sister Mae 8th home in 19:38. Laura Cook finished 20th in 21:25 with 26 girls competing. At this final match the girls were 3rd team but were pushed down to 4th by Herne Hill Harriers by 6 points.

Special mention that Layla & Mae Thompson, Susanne and Nicky Murphy along with myself were at each race this season while Nicky Atkins, Liz and Laura Cook managed 3. My sister Rachel and my daughter Jessica managed all four too, supporting us ladies and girls around the course (and helping me with declaration forms, numbers, pins etc!) as well as providing the lovely lemon cake! Thankyou very much.

Hope you have a successful summer season and return in the winter, ready to tackle the mud again!
