LILY B – SUTTON APRIL 16th 2011- MATCH 1
(Many apologies for the delay in writing this report but having just moved house life has been somewhat chaotic!! Sorry)
Unusually for the first match of the season we were blessed with a lovely warm sunny day which meant spirits were high from the start. Despite rather depleted U13 and U7 teams the result at the end of the day was a magnificent win. Once again this great result was achieved due the willingness of people to take on events outside their comfort zone to maximise our points. This is the attitude that helped win the Cup final last year so it was great to start the season in such a positive way.
In the U11 & U13s we had several girls making their debut for the club as well as some who had already competed last season. Well done to the following newcomers Pippa Earley, Sasha Reed, Olivia Siviter, Sophia Free, and Luisa Barnes. All in all there were some very encouraging performances and we hope to see even more newcomers at the next match. There were new PB’s for Nina and Sophie.
The U15 girls had the biggest team on the day and actually managed to fill virtually every event with at least one competitor, this is what makes a huge difference in scoring points. There were some very good early season performances with new PB’s for Laura C, Laura D, Lauren and Ella.
The highlight for the U15s was a great win over arch rivals Herne Hill in the 4x100m.
The U17 as usual consisted of only 3 people, but they did a great job in covering as many events as possible. Alex got new PB’s in both Discus and Hammer. A special thank you to Alice Clemens who came just to run in the relay at the end of the day which gained us a vital 6 points.
Overall there were 11 new PB’s, 18 event wins and 7 double event wins which was fantastic. If we can just get a few more U13s and U17s we will have a good chance of defending our title in July.
(Detailed results are available on the Power of 10 website)
