LILY B MATCH 2 (28/5/11 GUILDFORD)- GIRLS CONTINUE THEIR WINNING WAYS

Once again thanks to the “We’ll try anything” attitude of the team we were able to overcome strong opposition at Guildford and win by a clear margin of more than 50 points. In this match we had Louise, Evie and Rhianna making their competition debut and all scoring valuable points for the team. A special mention to Lousie and Evie who, having picked up a hammer for the first time in training on Thursday, managed to go out and win both A & B string U15 hammer, what a fantastic start.  Rhianna should also be commended for her determination to finish the 1500m despite suffering with a sore ankle. It is great to have new team members like this.

In the U11’s Pippa, Darcy, Sasha, Eleanor and Katherine all gave great performances. Darcy did particularly well in the LJ finishing 3rd overall, a fantastic result. There were new PB’s for Pippa & Sasha in the 600m, Sasha improving by 10 seconds on her previous best! Katherine also got a new PB in the 75m whilst Eleanor equalled hers.

In the U13’s there were also some new best performances, Sophie in the Shot and Nina in the HJ. Many others tried events for the first time to fill in the gaps and have set times and distances which can be improved as the season progresses.

In the U15’s despite a couple of mishaps the team performed really well. A special mention to Laura Darcy who fell in the hurdles just before the finish but bravely got up and completed the race despite heavy grazing to her arm and leg. Luckily she had already cleared the opening height in the HJ and this was enough for her to win the B string event. There were also a couple of new PB’s for Elle in the 200m and Bridget in the 1500m. As with the U13’s quite a few people tried out new events so have set bests which will hopefully be improved. In particular Ella who picked up a pole for the first time ever about 20mins before the Pole vault and successfully cleared 1.20m to gain a win in the B string. Very well done!!

As usual we had a very small U17 team, but they scored well with Nicole winning the 300m hurdles and Discus  whilst Olivia N won the B string Javelin. Olivia and Nicole made it a double first in the triple jump whilst Alex won the hammer. There were PB’s for Alex in Hammer and Shot and Nicole in the Discus .

The team on the day was :

U11 - Pippa Earley, Sasha Reed, Darcy Bourne, Katherine Bartle & Eleanor Bartle.

U13 – Rebecca Keddie, Leila Allan, Nina Gibbins, Sophie Dimbleby, Luisa Barnes, Rhianna Reynolds & Holly Beighton

U15 – Nadia Allan, Laura Darcey, Caitlin Dimbleby, Lauren Edwards, Ella Shaw, Elle Butcher, Preana Kanieri, Bryony Ross, Bridget Langford, Frances Rennie, Louise Trott, Evie Grippaudo

U17 – Nicole Kendall, Alex Bartle, Olivia Njae.

A huge thank you to everyone who came and competed and to all the parents and officials who supported us on the day, it has been a fantastic start to the season .

The next match is at Sutton on the 2nd of July and we are hoping that we will have our strongest team yet as the exams will all be over.

Please put this date and the 16th of July (The cup final) in you diaries now. We can only win by having enough people to fill all the events so it is vital we have as many people as possible .
