Vets League 2011 – Match 3 – Croydon Arena – 13th June – Men
We were third in this match and are now third overall going into the final match, one league point behind Croydon Harriers. The match was a curates egg for us, in that we were very short of middle distance runners, and our only representative in the 1500m was Geoff Reed, who also ran the 5000m, but this was offset by the very good results in the 100m, where Andrew Gordon (M35), Draco Mkpa (M40) and club president Pat Logan (M50) each won there races. To add to this Chuck Isetts celebrated his 69th birthday with a second place in the non-scoring race.
Your team manager managed a second (scoring) place in the M50 400 in a time he would rather forget (blame the wind on the back straight), but our other good points came from the field where Rob Lowe won the M40 Hammer and Tony Schwarz won the M50 Long Jump in a veteran PB of 4.67 (he also inspired our other Long Jumpers (Robin Shaw (M45) in the M40 event, and David Barrington (M70) in the M60 event) to age group PBs over 3 metres. Rob had a very mixed week having had a new daughter the previous Thursday, but then fracturing his wrist in the Pole Vault, so that his wrist is now in plaster, and he will be unable to compete for the next five weeks. So we all send congratulations on the first event, and our sympathy for the second week.
We need a good turnout for the final match this coming Monday.
Nicky will combine her Womens Match 3 Report with that for Match 4 which takes place just one week later at Kingston on June 20th(q.v.)
