Promotion for the Boys!
Ebbisham League: match, division and promotion won
Last Sunday the dismal result of this year’s first Ebbisham League match back in April became just a distant memory when our boys’ team secured their second consecutive match win in Croydon to finish first in Division 2 and win promotion back to Division 1. Division 2 leaders Walton did not quite show the strength of the previous two matches, so the only challenge for K&P came from the combined Dorking/Holland Sports/Reigate team. However, with a string of 17 first places our boys sealed a comfortable win. The match result meant that Walton held on to second place in the Division, but the top spot went to Kingston & Poly.

Altogether our athletes could celebrate 26 PB’s, and not least newcomers Sam Shaw, Cameron Brown, Marlon Fossey, Sammy Woolhouse and Conor Hayes had a great match and contributed significantly to the team success. The top performances of the day came from two of our superb U13 athletes. First Marlon Fossey set the track alight with a 13.1s winning run in the 80m Hurdles that would certainly be a grade 1 performance and put him on top of the Surrey rankings, but sadly the unusual 80m distance is not recognised in rankings and grade table. Harry Reynolds followed his example with a gutsy 1500m race in which he comprehensively left the favourites from Croydon and Herne Hill behind to finish with an excellent grade 2 time of 4.54.7 – one of the best times in Surrey this year. Results in the field were also impressive, not least excellent throws by Rory McCann, who deserves special mentioning as our only athlete to compete at all three Ebbisham (and all NYAL) matches this year. The winning team were:
U11: Finn Angell-Wells, Ethan Halsall, Blaize-Lee-Blackwood, Ben Paton, Sam Shaw
U13: Cameron Brown, Marlon Fossey, Harry Morgan, Harry Reynolds, Oscar Tyrrell, Rory Vassall, Sammy Woolhouse
U15: Phillip Bearman, Rhys Clements, Conor Hayes, Rory McCann, Neil Wellard
U17: Sam Vassall
Thanks also to all parents for their support, and to David Barrington, Susanne Dietrich and Matthew Morgan for covering our officials’ duties.
Next year we are competing again in Division 1, so our athletes will return to the usual, far better level of competition against top clubs like Croydon Harriers or Herne Hill Harriers. Our club has a proud tradition of good results in the League, and we have the quality to do well in the 2012 season – provided that our boys come out to compete. The girls have shown the way by winning the Lily B League with their fantastic team spirit this year…
