DH's final NJL report

NJAL REPORT SUNDAY 14th July 2011

The final NJAL fixture took place at a hot and reasonably sunny Hemel Hempstead being hosted by Vale of Aylesbury. This match saw the lowest turnout of the season with 11 boys and only 2 girls making the trip. Given the lack of athletes we did really well to finish 5th on the day and 4th overall in the Division.

The match result and final League standings are as follows:

1 Reading 475

2 Harrow AC 452.5

3 Vale of Aylesbury  283

4 Bracknell/Camb 237

5 Kingston & Poly      228

6 Thames Valley  208.5

7 Hillingdon AC 174

8 Sutton & District AC 112

Final placings

1 Harrow                31

2 Reading               29

3 Bracknell/Cam      22

4 K&P                    19

5 TVH                    14

6 Hillingdon            13

7 VoA                     11

8 S&D                      5

The team for the day was as follows:

Girls: Alex Bartle and Rahannah Gillette-Vernon.

Boys: Aidan Fahey, Patrick Hillyer, Kyan Koranteng, Gordon Lester, Dylan Morris, Asher Nelson, Tom Parry, Robert Purcell, Nikolaj Schubert, William Trimble, and Alex Williams-Baffoe.

Dylan and Robert were in the boy’s team for the first time. Rahannah scored highest of the 2 girls, whilst Asher, Tom and Will were joint highest scorers for the boys on the day.

There were 11 PBs set on the day. However, all the athletes tried their best and all should be proud of their efforts. The highlight of the day was possibly the antics of our three Pole Vaulters, where Patrick managed to break his PB, Aidan managed to break the bar and Gordon didn’t even break sweat as he failed 3 times at his opening height!!!

My thanks particularly go to Clare Nelson for driving the minibus as well as officiating along with Debbi Vernon, Candi Purcell and Tony Cook.

Finally, I would like to thank all those athletes who turned out this year. This season only Alex Bartle, Rahannah, Nikolaj, Patrick and Tom competed in all four matches, with Alex being the overall top points scorer for the Girls and Patrick taking that honour for the Boys. It is just a pity that so many only made it for one or two fixtures, as a larger turnout would have seen us do so much better.
