"An ideal incident-free day in the Park"
This past Saturday saw the first match in the Surrey League, at Richmond Park, hosted by us.
Compared with the previous Saturday, the conditions were a little more 'cross-country-like';no 30 degree heat, thank goodness!
It was a great K&P turnout and a good start to the season.
In the junior race Phil Bearman jnr ran very strongly finishing 4th in the U15/U17 age group. Harry Reynolds (U13) also produced an impressive run and was first in in his age group. Both look to be very promising runners for the future.
In the senior race,Craig Price (7th) and James Robertson (9th) were the first home, and made a real impact on our team scoring. Richard Mathie (15th) wasn't too far behind - it was excellent to have three runners finishing in the first 20.
Matt Hyett (33rd) was next in and was closely followed by Andy Arbour and Mark Reed, the winner of the recent Magdeburg 5k,along with wife Catherine in the womens race. Mike Maranzano, Michael Huntley, Ron Taylor and Phil Bearman snr completed the scorers. John Wilkinson, Ant Budarkiewicz, Peter Wilkins, Bob McDonough, Geoff Reed and Cashel Riordan completed the team line up, and ensured that K&P were well represented.
In the end,the team were third on the day out of 9. This puts us in a strong position for the next race, which is a return to the joy that is Lloyd Park, Croydon!
My thanks to everyone who marshalled, flagged and judged on the day, much appreciated.
Next up - Bank of England match, again at Richmond Park on 22nd October, worth attending for the post match tea alone!
