Kingston Borough Schools Cross Country Champs on 15 November 2011 –

Record turnout and fantastic success in particular for our youngest athletes and our girls

The day started with a stampede of 133 year 5/6 girls and 165 boys. Pippa Earley won the girls race, finishing half a minute before the next runner, and new member Eleanor McDonnell came 16th. With a fantastic sub-10 minutes time, Gregor Hooke came 3rd in the boys race, Finlay Hardwick 14th, Jorge Beltrao 28th and Harry Schwarz 49th.

The secondary schools girls’ results read even better. In the year 7 race, Mollie O’Sullivan came 2nd, Leila Allan 6th, Rebecca Keddie 8th, Sophie Dimbleby 10th and Alex Shaw 11th. The junior girls race (year 8+9) was comprehensively won by Ellé Butcher; 2nd was Nadia Allan, 6th Caitlin Dimbleby, 9th Holly Beighton, 15th Ella Hughes, with very respectable runs by our sprinters/ jumpers Grace O’Neil, Flo Instone, Anna Harvey and Frances Rennie. In the inter girls race (year 10+11), Laura Cook came 3rd, followed by Ella Shaw (4th), Laura Dunkling (5th), Bridget Langford (6th) and Olivia Njae (8th).

The secondary schools boys’ results are somewhat fragmentary as the names of a number of runners have not been recorded. However, it can be reported that in the year7 race, Alex Line and Adam Henderson came 19th and 20th. Josh Burrow, Toby Deighton, Ollie Phelps, Rory Vassall, Will Dawson and Josh Pearson had a go in the junior’s race and Sam Vassall came 13th in the inter’s race, followed by Matt Stevens, Matt Lester, Zain Rawji, Tuomas Syyrilä, and throwers Matt Stevens and Maz Hemici. Nikolaj Schubert did the Senior’s race though his time seems to have been lost.

Over and all a very satisfying day for our athletes and for the club, and well done to our athletes!

HOW to go on to the SURREY SCHOOLS Champs at Reigate Priory on SATURDAY 21st JANUARY 2012?

All secondary school athletes who finished in the top ten of their Borough/ District Schools Champs are qualified to run the Surrey County Champs at Reigate Priory (or, if your school is in Middlesex, you go on to the Middlesex Champs). The next 5-6 athletes are reserve in case that one of the 10 qualified by right falls ill. In order to participate, you must make sure that your name is being entered by the Borough/District team managers. For Kingston, these are Robin Shaw (boys’ team manager, [ This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ](mailto:

) ) and Sally Beere (girls’ team manager ( [ This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ](mailto:

) ). For other districts, check the contact details on the Surrey Schools Athletics Association’s website (http://www.ssaa.org.uk/).

For primary school athletes, there currently is no Borough selection system. Any school can enter up to 8 boys and 8 girls. So, if you have done well in your Borough Champs, or if you are doing well in the Downs League, then ask your school to enter you. The entry forms can be downloaded from the Surrey Schools Athletics Association’s website (http://www.ssaa.org.uk/), or they can be obtained from Susanne Dietrich, Kingston and Poly Young Athletes' Cross Country Team Manager ( [ This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Enjoy your running
