Review of Match 1 from an elated TM

K&P take the lead in UKYAL Division 1

Our team pulled off a brilliant start of the Young Athletes League season with a clear victory at Kingsmeadow. Sophie Dimbleby and Rhianna Reynolds sent the signal out in the first event with a double win in the hurdles, and despite a late surge from TVH we never surrendered the lead thereafter. 63 1st and 2nd places showed the quality of the team, but decisive was our athletes’ willingness to fight for every point. The spirit of the day was exemplified by Zain Rawji, who went through the pain of running 100m relay, 1500 steeplechase and 400m relay within less than an hour to secure massive 15 points for the team. Certainly a memorable moment was Phillip Bearman stunning his competitors in the 400m hurdles, where he not only joined the race in the very last moment, but ran in socks (!) to victory. Remarkable was Markus Syyrilä’s 2m PV after just a few training sessions with Maurice.

We are leading Division 1 SWN for now, with two tough fixtures at the Linford Christie Stadium (20 May) and Aldershot Military Stadium (17 June) remaining. The record turnout was the key to our success in the first match, so let’s keep it going.
