Comfortable home win

Our best turnout for this nascent league secured an expected win against opposition towards the lower end of the Division, and,as a result, cemented our place in upper middle table, with one match to go at Eastbourne in September.

On a rather damp day, there were some useful performances, notably in the Field, where the joint team won every string except the Womens Triple and Long Jumps which constitutes 28 wins out of 32.On the track,we were not so dominant, with the Mens MD events not well supported.

Some highlights on the track for the Women included two B sprint wins for U17 Lauren Edwards(13.4/27.9);an 800 success for U15 Elle Butcher(2.23.9) running as a non-scorer with U17 Laura Cook setting a PB 2.33.4 in the match;a handy first place over the 400H for U17 Mae Thompson(67.2); a 4 x 100 success for an U17 quartet finishing just outside the Club record, and a cameo appearance from Mary Iheke in the 4x4,straight from the Refreshment counter. On the Men's side trackwise,Jordan Smith-Bent,Justin Green,Aidan Fahey,Adam Bellis & Chris Hall dominated through 100-400 and relays; Matthew Stevens set a PB over 800 in a good race with fellow-Under 17 Sam Vassall;Phil Bearman Snr took the 3k Steeple and Tom Parry ran away with the 400Hurdles.

In the Women's Field,Camilla Thrush,Alex Bartle and Rahannah Gillette-Vernon cleaned up the throws with a seasonal best or two between them, whilst it was really Men v Boys on the Mens side where evergreen Gareth Cook(HT),Chris Dack(JT),Loic Malroux(JT,& LJ(UK style)) and Nick Owen(SP) all set best marks of this soggy summer. The latter was Man of the Match.

Particular thanks to a host of K&P-'appointed' Officials(both in the Box and in the Arena) including invitees Colin Stroud(G&G),Martin Long(S&D) and Carrie & Paul Archdeacon from Hercules Wimbledon. It is,however,a good job the iniquitous 'points for officials' allocations are merely token in the SAL - only one track official from the 3 visiting clubs though John Gilbert(IEK) & Nigel Bongers(Holland) were their usual all-embracing selves in the field and in competition! There were also wholly unnecessary issues with the Pole Vault and Steeplechase which marred the day administratively and added to the debate.
