News from Banstead

Last Saturday the Men's XC team headed to Nork Park, Banstead for the first Surrey League match of the season.

The day started well with 5 runners in the junior race. Philip Bearman had an impressive win and following him in close succession were Neil Wellard (3rd) and Harry Reynolds (4th). Matt Stevens (6th) and U13 Sam Shaw (11th) completed the team.

In the Men's race the run of the day came from James Robertson who took a brilliant 2nd place, certainly the highest K&P position I have seen in my eight or so years at the club. He was followed by myself (20th), Andy Arbour (29th), Jamie McCullagh (34th). Completing the team were Philip Bearman snr(impressive run as a V47 - Ed!), Michael Huntley, Mike Maranzano, Peter Wilkins, Ant Budarkiewicz and David Greenfield. We were also pleased to see newcomer to the Surrey League Ben Reynolds.

The Men's team finished 5th out of 9 teams in the end, but there is very little separating us between the 3rd and 4th places. Hopefully a good race at the next League match on 10th November at Epsom Downs will push us further up the League table. My thanks to everyone who ran and all who supported.

Next up is the Bank of England match at Richmond Park on 27 October (5 miles) between Bank of England, Kingston & Polytechnic, Thames Hare & Hounds, Elmbridge, Milocarians, and the Stock Exchange. The race will start at 15:00. Changing facilities will be available at the Bank Sports Club.
