Last Saturday saw a very impressive turnout for the third Surrey League cross country match of the season, at a very cold Mitcham Common. To my knowledge we haven't run at this location before (actually,in 1987 BC!!! Ed)- I enjoyed it, a fast course.
In the Young athletes race, K&P were dominant, Phil Bearman jnr placing 1st(after parkrun), followed by Neil Wellard 2nd, Harry Reynolds 4th and Sam Vassall 7th. In the U17/U15 category we took 1st spot and head the overall table. Great news, well done guys.
16 of us turned up for the senior race. Our lead runner was Harry Johnston who replicated the position he achieved in the last match, 4th. Richard Mathie was next home in 17th. There was then a group of us who finished within seconds of each other, Michael Huntley (24th) (continuing his excellent form), myself (29th), Phil Bearman snr (also having run a Park run in the morning!) (32nd) and Mark Reed (34th). Jonathan Darby showed good improvement on last time placing 47th and we were also grateful to see Ron Taylor (55th). Jon Cook (85th) and Ant Budarkiewicz (99th) ably completed the scoring line up.
Completing the squad were Ben Reynolds, Tony Macdowall, a debut from Rich Vassall, Graham Huntley, Bob Mcdonough and Geoff Reed(another a.m. parkrunner). Great to see runs from Bob and Graham after some time away from racing.
In the end we finished 4th on the day but we remain 3rd in the League which is pretty good going.
My thanks to all who ran, and thanks to Helen Cook, the Reynolds' and Tukki who braved the icy conditions to support us.(worr abart the Ref!)
On 9th Feb we run the final League race at Denbies Vineyard- let's aim for a great finish!
