Sincere thanks to our redoubtable officials - nothing would happen without them
Despite a decision to go ahead taken on the Thursday before, some nifty late adjustments to the usual course in the early a.m.were deemed necessary by the expert Flagging Team, but, for the smallish fields expected, these diversions added some extra interest and challenges for the 120 runners over 6 races. This was the smallest complement since we added Under 11s 10 years ago - when Molly Renfer and Jonathan Darby won their races(maybe it WAS a good move, after all!) - but the recent inclement weather, amongst other reasons, obviously precluded some entries.
Race One for the Under 11 Girls was not without its alarums, but Darcy Bourne flew round the slightly longer course in 9.34 to win the K&P Peter Townsend Trophy and the race handsomely from Leonie Kennedy,Hannah Lester and Sacha Kennedy, all 4 being K&P members. Freya Best,Jessica Hilton & Isabelle Bibby completed the Club contingent. Five schools closed in teams with Holy Cross Prep.,the holders,1st with 23pts to take the Plaque, followed by Radnor House(newcomers) and Putney High.(40 ran)
Race Two featured the U11 Boys, and it was again a K&P member,Olly Wilson, who crossed first to win the race and K&P's Steve Hall Trophy,,ahead of Sam Fraley(Unicorn) and Oliver Williams(Hinchley Wood). Jack Westley was the K&P silver-medalist and the team race went to Unicorn School, ahead of Hinchley Wood.(18 ran)
Race Three was back to the Girls, this time the Under 13s. Mollie O'Sullivan was unbeatable again, retaining her Stan Belton Trophy, ahead of the redoubtable Rebecca Keddie and Kathryn Bartle, all K&P clan. Annabel Hobday,Eleanor Bartle and Eleanor Bibby filled the other Club slots. Holy Cross New Malden(not to be confused with Holy Cross Prep) took team honours, ahead of Surbiton High. (16 ran)
Race Four was the Under 13 Boys, with Aaron Bruce taking the race for Grey Court and the K&P's Jimmy Wood Trophy for himself, with Brendan Liew(Tiffin) in silver and Rokeby and K&P's Morrison Cleaver in 3rd. Sam Shaw took the 3rd K&P award in 4th,with Ben Paton & Gregor Hooke filling the K&P cabinet. Grey Court nudged the Team Award from Tiffin. (18 ran)
Race Five saw a small select bunch from 3 schools contest a tight team race, with Lucie Fletcher(Coombe) winning well and taking the Stan Belton Club Trophy, ahead of Libby Brown(Grey Court) and Emma Stanley(Surbiton High). Gabby James took the K&P silver and Grey Court edged the Team Award with 15pts from Coombe and Surbiton.(10 ran)
In the 6th and Final race, combining the Under 15 Boys with other K&P Club Champs,Phillip Bearman Jnr romped away with the race and the K&P U17 Jimmy Wood Trophy. In 2nd,Phoebe Law tuned up for the County Schools race next weekend,by charging round the course(with a little help from Father Bearman!) to take 2nd and win K&P's U17 Women Cox Vase from Layla and Mae Thompson and Bridget Langford. In the Senior Women's section,Rachel Brookes usurped sibling Debbie Raymond to nick the Doris Nice Trophy and Nicky Atkins retained her Vets Parents Trophy ahead of Liz Richardson and Avelline Deighton. Sadly, the Womens U20 trophy went begging again, but it was more disappointing, with three in-form Under 15 Boys in action this winter, that the Under 15 Jimmy Wood Trophy was also uncontested. (18 ran)
Stats you did not really want to know;-
1 K&P members won all 6 races.
2 Four sets of twins raced for K&P - the Kennedys, the Thompsons, the Bartles and the ex-Burbridges.
3 Four of the five Senior+ K&P runners are mothers of 3 children each - that's commitment!
