Final Surreys Ladies League Div Two Cross Country Report for 12/13 by Debbie Raymond

Last Saturday was our last cross country match this season. The venue, Denbies Vineyard, Dorking.

The course had changed from the race we did a couple of years ago but it was still hilly although not as wet!

We managed a full senior team. Just. It was a close race for the first 3 Kingston and Polytechnic athletes. We each overtook the other and kept swapping our positions. I was first in 35th (44.10), Rachel Brookes 36th (44.14) and Nicky Atkins 37th (44.15)

Nicki Murphy followed with a fabulous sprint finish in 60th (48.05) followed by our latest K&P recruit, Jo Aherne in 65th (48.20). Overall we finished 8th of 18 teams. It is very encouraging to have a larger senior/vets squad to ensure we always have a team, regardless of how many get injured, fall pregnant or fall ill!

The 2nd race was for U15s/U17s. Once again Phoebe Law had a stunning race and finished 1st (16.08) with Layla Thompson 13th (18.01). The team were 3rd. Lucy Fletcher ran her Surreys Ladies League debut and was 8th in the U15 race(17.39).

Finally for the first time this season the U13s had a team. Darcy Bourne 5th (12.50), Mollie O'Sullivan 6th (13.20), Rebecca Keddie 19th (14.22) and Mica Powell 29th (15.14) The team was 4th overall. Next year we want at least a team bronze!!

Special thanks to all those who supported and cheered us on our way. Looking forward to the 13/14 season. Hope all have a good summer season.
