Vets League 29th April 2013
K and P men's team report

A slightly disappointing start to the season. Our team depleted of over 60s due to injury and short of 1500m runners in the m35s and m40s (an m50 ran the m40 string for us), we came 6th of 7 in match 1. On the positive side there was little difference in points between us in 6th (100.5) and Croydon Harriers in 4th (105.5) and 3rd with 116 points(Herc Wimb) was not out of reach of a full turnout. The joint winners of the match were Epsom and Walton on 138 points apiece.
We had wins from Mark Roberts (Javelin) Draco Mkpa (m40 100m) , Cashel Riordan (m60 100m) and David Bell (making his m50 debut in the 2K walk), and 2nd places from our 4 x 100 Relay team (messrs Roberts, Ollie Oladele, Mkpa, and Andrew Gordon), Jon Cook (m50 1500m), Rob Lowe (Shotput), and Frank Schubert (m50 Javelin and Shot - also did high jump and long jump). Robin Shaw, Mike May and Rupert Bole covered other events . Thanks to David Barrington, Maurice Joyce and new member Mike Edwards for getting our field event organisation responsibilities in the Women's Triple Jump discharged.

SVAC report by Nicky Atkins

Our first match was on home ground with Hercules Wimbledon hosting. Analysing the results our new rivals Walton looked pretty strong winning most of the track events but their absences in other events were to our advantage. K&P finished 2nd to Epsom & Ewell Harriers with 123 points to Walton’s 92 points so hopefully we should be able to hold on to our usual 2nd place at the end  of the four matches – oh to get 1st place – one day we will!

The highlight of the evening was Liz Richardson running her debut 1500m in the Vet’s league achieving a pleasing 5.52.3 minutes and a new PB, after having not raced on the track for 20 months.  Caroline Jeffcote also achieved a new PB in the 400m and then went on to knock over a minute off her 10k time six days later!

Thanks to those athletes who competed: Camilla Thrush, Clare Nelson, Susanne Dietrich, Nicki Murphy, Gill Broderick, Caroline Jeffcote, Rosalind Darby, Liz Richardson, Joan Trimble and Nicky Atkins and to officials and supporters.

Our next match will be at Kingsmeadow with K&P hosting on Monday 20th May.
