id1607-Third Xcountry match Surrey League

Written by Matt H

Matt Hyett reports:- Earlier this month (11th) saw the third match of the Surrey League calendar, at Priory Park, Reigate. Generally the conditions were quite good, save for some muddy areas dotted around and a pig of a hill to climb early on in the course!

The afternoon started well, with an excellent run from Neil Wellard (1st for the youth age category), and a great run from Sam Shaw (2nd in the Colts age category)- well done both!

As has been the case throughout the season so far, James Robertson and Harry Johnston were our leading scorers in the men's team, placing an impressive 8th and 10th respectively. Sadly for us, Harry leaves to go abroad soon and will not be running at K&P for a while, but many thanks to him for his significant contribution over the past couple of seasons. Michael Huntley, Matt Hyett and Andy Arbour finished very closely together and were the next K&P runners home. Our team was completed by Peter Wilkins, Mike Maranzano and Geoff Reed.

In the end K&P ended up finishing last I'm afraid, despite our best efforts. As a result, we are now in the relegation danger zone. The next match will be critical if we want to remain in division 2.

Next League match- 8th Feb- Lloyd Park.

Finally, the team missed the presence of Ant Budarkiewicz, who was unable to attend owing to a recent bereavement. Our team and K&P as a whole send our sincere condolences and wish Ant and his family all the best at this difficult time.
