Our first match was a home match against other local clubs: Epsom & Ewell Harriers, Croydon Harries, Striders of Croydon, Hercules Wimbledon, Walton, Dorking & Sutton. Dorking & Sutton had no competitors in this match.

K&P ladies managed to cover most of the events by filling in event gaps where needed. The only events left uncovered was the 100m (B), the pole vault (there were no competitors from other clubs) and the over 60 age group as we haven’t any athletes in this age group.

On the track Joan Trimble flew to a 14.9 sec victory over Croydon Harriers 16.2 sec second place. Avelline Deighton made her debut appearance at the vets league in the 400m 85 sec and in non-scoring long jump 3.08m. Caroline Jeffcote was pleased, and so was I, with her PB 1500m 7.31.8.

Out in the field Camilla Thrush, Nicki Murphy and Liz Searle took charge of all the throwing and jumping events. Liz Searle also made her debut appearance competing in the long jump and in non-scoring javelin,

The medley relay 2x 200m, 400, 800m. K&P came second to Epsom & Ewell. The relay team consisted of Joan Trimble, Clare Nelson (2 x 200m), Nicki Murphy (400m) and Rosaline Darby (800m).

K&P came a safe second place with 96 points to Epsom & Ewell, 142 points, in this first match. Croydon Harriers with 57 points came third.
