EBBISHAM LEAGUE – M2 Walton, 8th June by Gill B

A great and closely contested match 2 for the U31s-U15 boys’ teams and THE BEST team result for the U13s in many, many years, finishing joint 2nd with Dorking on 78 points to Croydon with 80.  When all the scores were added to our U15s we finished in a safe 4th place. We can still take 3rd place with a final league match to go.

1st Dorking & Reigate 171, 2nd Croydon 163, 3rd Herne Hill 159,

4th Kingston 147, 5th South L H 112. 6th Herc W 82

The Walton track produces fairly quick middle distance times yet slower sprint times as our 800 and 1500 boys ran extremely well and mostly all of them achieved personal best times.

Our U11s who ran in the non-scoring races to help prepare them for U13 were: Sebastian Chang, Sam Clark, Michael Webb-Bourne, Thomas Ward, Tom Wilson and Alfie Westley.  Notable performance was from Michael Webb-Bourne who ran a sub two minute 600m, but Sebastian Change (in what was the fastest heat) closed in with an excellent 2.03.8.   However, a couple of even younger lads, Tom Wilson (Olly’s younger brother) and Alfie Westley (Jack’s younger brother) performed well to recorded 2.12.9 and 2.17.8 look promising for the future!  In the sprint events, Michael was our fastest over 75m& 150m with 11.6 & 23.1, Thomas Ward 12.5 & 25.7, Sam Clark 12.6 & 25.6, Alfie 13.5. Sebastian Chang 25.8 150m and a promising LJ of 3.31m.

U13 TEAM: Jack Westley, Thomas White, Ben Ashmore, Matthew Hall, Olly Wilson, Ben Taplin, Ben Collier, Luke Newell, Luca Di Libero, Adam Williams-Baffoe, Dylan Dyson-Holland, Yom Williams, Louis Orlovac, Murray McFarlane, Patrick McDonnell, Josh Bellamy.

Breaking News first: U13 Relay team ranked 10th on Power of Ten after their 2nd placed relay 4 x 200m in a time of 2.03.0.

Dylan Dyson Holland,  Olly Wilson, Adam Williams-Baffoe, Thomas White. Thomas White stepped into the hurdles and ran 16.2 while Jack ran the B in 16.5. Solid performances there. Thomas then ran the A 100m with Ben A (recovering from a knee injury) in 14.3 & 14.4 respectively, both have ran faster.  800m – Matthew Hall and Olly Wilson –both running a best time:  Matthew in 2.27.3 2nd, Olly 2.28.0 1st B.  Interestingly, Thomas W excels over 200m and was 2nd in A race 28.6. With Dylan running a best time of 31.7 and finishing 3rd B.  The 1500m was exciting and FAST with only 14.8 seconds separating 1st to 5th.  Ben C in the A ran an amazing best of 5.14.9 with good support in the B – Ben T in 5,58.7 (and running with an achilles  injury!)   Josh Bellamy who has recently joined ran an excellent non scoring 1500m in 5.46.1 which is his best time. 300m race had our 800m team of Matthew and Olly;  again ran solidly to record 45.8 A 3rd and 46.4 B 1st. Our field eventers didn’t let us down: Luke Newell 1st Discus B 14.92 and 2nd A Jav 20.87 (PB for both), Luca Di Libero 3rd A Discus 15.75m. Long jump – our two 4m plus boys suffered because of injury and track events clashing, was not a field event in our favour this time round but what they achieved on the track makes up for their performances and it’s their willingness and enthusiasm to do well for the club and themselves is just as important.

U15 TEAM: Daniel Smith, Blaize Lee-Blackwood, Will Rowe, Sam Shaw, Michael Brazil, Ben Paton, Zac Wort, George Chaplin, Sol Harris-Woodfin, Alex Burrows, Harry Moran, George Medd-Tacon. The U15s filled in events where possible – we  lacked a B TJ and hurdles only and with an excellent primarily middle distance squad running the sprints except for Daniel  and Blaize.  Hats off to Daniel, newly competing for us and ran the 80mhdls A 15.3 and earned us 3 points, then he filled in for an injured Blaize in the 200m at the last minute and got us 4 points running 28.6. Sam Shaw (who is our top 1500m/800m athlete) ran the A 200m in the same time.  100m Will Rowe A (better over 200m/400m) sprinted well for 2 points 14.0 with Blaize supporting in B race 14.8. The competition in the Ebbisham is strong, tough and fast.  Croydon and Herne Hill are Premier Division of the YDL and at the same time our boys experience a high level to push themselves to achieve best times and throws. 800m A Sam ran his best time 2.14.9 – winning time 2.13.0 - for 3rd while 800m B Sol ran 2.21.6 for 2nd.   400m A Michael ran 67.5, 400m B Ben Paton (returning from injury) ran faster 65.2.  I checked the results and if they had been swapped over we would have retained the same points, so nothing lost here but two brave performances. The winning 400m time was an incredible 55.9! 1500m A Zac Wort, who is a triathlete, ran strongly with the leader to finish 2nd in 4.40.0 while in the B race, George Chaplin ran the race of his life for 2nd in 4.57.4. Ten points there!   In the field events, TJ A Alex Burrows doing it for the first time competitively jumped a credible 8.28m while running to and from Discus where he threw his best of 18.31m. Discus A Harry with his first competition and throwing 20.29m.  Shot A Will was in 2nd until the last round, recording 9.18m 3rd, Shot B, Alex 3rd 6.53m.  Finishing with LJ A, Will 4.58m, B Michael Brazil 5th 3.84m.  Valuable points indeed.
