id1656-YDL Lower age group Match 3

K&P storm to 2nd place in U13/U15 YDL match

When the day started with two dropouts due to injury and illness, we could not have foreseen that it would end with our best team performance of the season. This time, however, we were able to send out a strong U15 boys’ team. We also had a number of strong newcomers bolstering the team, and last not least everyone was willing to fill any of the gaps. The first score updates showed Bracknell running away with it, but only very few points separated 2nd to 6th place.

This showed just how important every single point was, and out athletes fought hard in the last events to make sure of an excellent 2nd place for the team. The relays were the highlight of the day, with wins for the U13 boys’ and U15 girls’ 4x100 squads, and 2nd places in the U13 girls’ 4x100 and U15 girls’ 4x300 races. The U13 girls (Hannah Lester, Jasmine Woodrooffe, Lucy Tunnacliffe, Amelia Bell) in their spectacular run annihilated the 4x100m Club record, improving it by nearly 2 seconds.

A much improved turnout of 38 athletes gave us a nearly full team this time – the basis for the team success. We had again plenty of AAA graded results across the team: Grade 4’s for Amelia Bell (75m), Jasmine Woodroffe (LJ), Ben Ashmore (200m), Ben Collier (800m), Matthew Hall (1500m), Thomas White (100m), Olly Wilson (1500m, LJ), Amy Counihan (200m), Leila Legris (HJ), Gabriel Lewis (800m), Samuel Sturmer (200m, LJ), Grade 3’s for Lucy Tunnacliffe (75m, 150m), Jasmine Woodroffe (75m), Ben Ashmore (HJ),Rhianna Reynolds (75H, HJ), Sam Shaw (800m), Zak Wort (1500m), and excellent performances with Grade 2’s for Amelia Bell (150m), Matthew Hall (HJ), Thomas White (200m), Ella Eze (100m), Rhianna Reynolds (LJ) and Grade 1’s for Sophie Dimbleby (JT), Ella Eze (200m).

Thanks to everyone for their help during the match: Mary Dimbleby and Julie Reynolds helping with the team management, warm-up coach Samuel Vassall, track judge Colin Watts, timekeeper Maurice Joyce, and our field official team of James Bell, Susanne Dietrich, Dorinda Lester, Ian Marlow, Mark Reynolds, the  Tunnacliffes, and Richard Vassall.

Our team:

U13 Girls: Hetty Arnfield, Amelia Bell, Imogen Busa, Hannah Lester, Louisa Stoney, Lucy Tunnacliffe, Gemma Watts, Jasmine Woodroffe

U15 Girls: Isabella Busa, Eleanor Church, Amy Counihan, Sophie Dimbleby, Ella Eze, Annabel Hobday, Rebecca Keddie, Leila Legris,  Mica Powell, Rhianna Reynolds, Caitlin Williams

U13 Boys: Ben Ashmore, Josh Bellamy, Ben Collier, Matthew Hall, Aaron Marlow, Murray McFarlane, Thomas White, Olly Wilson

U15 Boys: Tiago Beltrao, Michael Brazil, Sol Harris-Woodfin, Gabriel Lewis, Harry Moran, Ben Paton, Will Rowe, Sam Shaw, Samuel Sturmer, Zak Wort

We are now in 4th place in the league, but only 0.5 points separate 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. With our home match to finish this year’s YDL season, we have all but secured our place in division 1. Another performance like on Sunday may even catapult us to 2nd place in the division, which would be a fantastic result for a newly promoted side.

The last YDL match is on Saturday 19 July at Kingsmeadow.
