First known competitive results of the new Indoor season from K&P athletes came from the WSEH Open at Eton on the 4th - newly first claim Aussie,Peter Walsh, clocked 7.30&7.22 over 60m with Andy Gordon running 7.45&7.50,Mike May 8.73&8.66, and Harriet Lester 8.45 followed by 9.51 over 60 hurdles.
Also on the 4th,in conjunction with the annual Oxford v Cambridge fixture on Wimbledon Common,Andy Arbour ran in the Old Blues race, finishing a very creditable 12th.
The 5th was the 2nd Surrey Sportshall matches at Guildford Spectrum and Team Manager,Gillian Libretto, had encouraged a substantial turnout which saw K&P taking 2nd in all four competitions, with three 'B' teams in action, too, not least that of the U13 Girls where they were 5th,not far adrift of the A squad. Individually,Richard Smeaton took the top honours overall in the U13 Boys;Lucy Jones(2nd) & Charlie Kelly(9th) were in the U13 Girls frame;Josh Diffley(2nd),Tom Stottor(5th) & Neal Renfer(7th) made their presence felt at U15 Boys;with Mary Iheke(6th) & Roseanne Mackay(10th) showing highly at U15 Girls.Fuller results are on the Surrey website(www.surreyathletics.org.uk) & on the NB at Kingsmeadow.
On the 11th,a purely domestic field assembled for the Club Open 7 Miles, and, despite some moron attempting to divert the race by moving flags/tape,Ant Budarkiewicz was a clear winner of both the David Pool Trophy and of the Pat Wilks Award for the veterans handicap. He raced clear of the holder,Andy Arbour, with Graeme Horstead 3rd - full results were:
1 Ant Budarkiewicz(M45) 38.31;2 Andy Arbour 39.25;3 Graeme Horstead 46.37; 4 Dina Kalonji(U17) 48.58;5 Matthew Boddy(U20) 49.00;6 David Greenfield(M45) 50.04; 7 Graham Huntley(M50) 51.17;8 Matthew Hyett 53.20;9 Dave Gibbons(M50) 56.31; 10 Geoff Reed(M55) 56.41;11 Cashel Riordan(M55) 64.24.

The next day,the 12th,Nicky Atkins again brought together a handy 19 runners for the second Downs League - the weather was less cheerful than the first match but, nonetheless, better than should be expected of the Downs.
Leading K&P performer in the Under 11 race was William Stottor in 7th with Germany in the shapes of Lukas Vogel & Nicolaj Schubert next in. In the Under 13s,Charlie Kelly again showed the boys the way home in 6th,followed by Edmund Croall & Jonathan Miller, whilst,in the Under 15s event,Tom Stottor was 2nd home ,with Michael Atkins & Tom Pavitt backing up.

Meanwhile,at the High Performance Centre in Sheffield on the 19th,M40 Vet Mike May posted his pb 400 indoors with a 64.26 clocking.
The following weekend,on Belgrave's course on Wimbledon Common, illness and commitment to the RonHill Surrey Classic the next day kept the numbers low for the South of Thames 7.5 miles Championships. Both Bob McDonough & Jamie McCullagh have been laid low with viruses(or is it virii!)recently and, though the latter started,he wisely called it a day after 2 of the 3 laps.Meanwhile,Ant Budarkiewicz,in his 45th year, continued to show good form ,working his way through to 30th & 5th vet(45.10) at the line, but only David Greenfield(142th-64.20) & Geoff Reed(144th-64.53) added to the K&P contribution and we failed to close in a team.
And,finally for 2004,four contested the 3rd and final race in David Denton's popular RonHill Surrey Classic 10ks,this one at Horton Country Park;Graeme Horstead took 47th(39.43) to place 23rd overall;Bob McDonough ran into 68th position & 1st M60(41.18);Graeme Huntley was 136th(45.55) for 73rd after the full 3 runs;and Liz Richardson finished 177th(49.30).
The same day, representing Tiffins S.,Tim Sagar took 4th in the U15 race in Reigate's annual Holly Run.
