Despite a cool wind, summer attempted to make an appearance in Guildford for the first Lily B fixture of the season but where as the sun may of struggled to breakthrough Kingston`s female athletes had no such problem storming to an emphatic victory.
A fantastic turnout travelled down the A3 and were rewarded with some outstanding performances and a multitude of pb`s some of which I will highlight but apologies to those who I may miss out due to lack of space.
An encouraging peep into the future was to be had with several under 11`s starting their track and field careers, hopefully they enjoyed their experience and we hope to see them back for the next match.
The very young under 13 team gained several pb`s including Jessica in the 100m and Phoebe in the 200m, a mention to Zoe and Isabel who performed excellently in the hurdles, Middle distance pb`s were also broken in the 800m by both Bronwyn and Amelia and by Gemma in the 1500m, with this experience behind them we hope this will be the start of a great learning curve for all our young athletes and they will thrive as the season moves on.
Our under 15`s team saw Pippa continue her incredible form with 2 victories in the hurdles and 100m respectively, also in the hurdles Darcy and Lucy raced to their best ever times, while Amelia and Jasmine gained pb`s in the 100m. Also a pb for Kathryn in the 1500m. Jasmine and Louisa won the A and B high jump in new pb`s and the long jump saw Hannah and Eleanor Bartle gain personal best performances; another 2 pb`s for Hetty in the Shot and Hammer.
From a personal point of view my highlight of the day was the under 15 800m a race in which Annabel Hobday was tucked in 5th place for most of the race, she then with about 150m to go started picking off the other athletes one by one and timed her finish to absolute perfection getting up for a fantastic win right on the line.
Jumping ahead to the Under 17`s there was an understandably small turnout due to exams and unfortunately illness, but those who came were superb in attempting not only their own events but filling in by throwing, jumping or running in events that perhaps they may not do very often (if ever) this perhaps best shown by Jessica who was running from throwing the hammer straight to the pole vault, then later doing a 300 metres hurdles. Not to be outdone Amelia gained pb`s in the 800m, long jump and high jump and Alexandra did the same in her 3 events pbs in discus, shot and 800m, Rhianna had triple jump and hurdles pb`s.
A big thank you to Rebecca(1st in the B hammer) Sophie (1st in the Javelin) and Mica (2nd in the 200m)who not only performed well on the day but had also been competing in Dorset in the YDL league the day before, that is a long weekend so huge thank you to them and those who got them to Guildford.
Athlete of the match T-shirts to Jessica Lillywhite, Annabel Hobday and Alexandra Shaw.
Thank you also to Frank, Susanne, Maurice, Beverley, James, Dorinda and Susan for help on the day with official duties and teams also to Tom Parry for his coaching and all others who assisted on the day.
So as you can see a great start to the season, hope to see you all at Walton on the 25th July.
