id1730-A place in the top 3 for K&P YDL - Lower age group report

Written by Frank S

For the second match in the YDL season we sent out a nearly full team to Guildford, and it made a huge difference to the result. Already the Hillingdon match had shown that the midfield in our division is very tight between Hillingdon, Camberley, Dorset and us, but we still ended up 50 points behind Hillingdon and Camberley. This time we were already in 3rd place when the first score was announced, even though in the final stages only 5 points separated us from Hillingdon and Camberley. Determined performances in the relays decided the battle in our favour, resulting in a very satisfying 3rd place.

Provisional team scores:

Guildford & Godalming AC

Camberley & District AC

City of Portsmouth AC

Thames Valley Harriers

Kingston AC & Polytechnic H

Team Dorset

Hillingdon AC

Full results and further information are available on the YDL website ( and on Power of Ten (

42 athletes made their way to Guildford, with K&P competitors filling almost all available slots in the team. Again our athletes could celebrate many PB’s and AAA graded results: Grade 4’s from Katie Harrison (75m), Jessica Lillywhite (75m, 150m), Phoebe Pollington (75m), Zoe Shepherd (70H), Gemma Watts (1200m), Amelia Bell (100m, 200m), Annabel Hobday (300m, 800m), Freddy Crosby (HJ), Luca di Libero (LJ), Dylan Dyson-Holland (100m), Aaron Marlow (JT, SP), grade 3’s from Lucy Tunnacliffe (75H), Jasmine Woodroffe (100m), Luca di Libero (SP), Thomas White (100m, 200m), Sol Harris-Woodfin (800m), Jonathan Hodson (HJ), Sam Shaw (1500m), Beckett Whiting (80H), excellent grade 2’s from Olly Wilson (1500m), Zak Wort (1500m).

Thanks to everyone for their help during the match, in particular our track judge Colin Watts, timekeeper Maurice Joyce, and our field official team of Cathy Arnfield, James Bell, Susanne Dietrich, Renzo di Libero, Susan Hobart, Ian Marlow, Beverly Tunnacliffe, and Simon Whiting, who not only ran ‘our’ events but also helped out at the long jump when Portsmouth was short of officials.

Our team:

U13 Girls: Emilia Chittenden, Katie Harrison, Kira Holt, Freya John, Jessica Lillywhite, Phoebe Pollington, Zoe Shepherd, Gemma Watts

U15 Girls: Hetty Arnfield, Eleanor Bartle, Kathryn Bartle, Amelia Bell, Darcy Bourne, Imogen Busa, Annabel Hobday, Hannah Lester, Eleanor McDonnell, Louisa Stoney, Lucy Tunnacliffe, Jasmine Woodroffe

U13 Boys: Josh Bellamy, Freddy Crosby, Sebastian Chang, Luca di Libero, Dylan Dyson-Holland, Matteo LeForestier, Aaron Marlow, Theo McChesney, Thomas White, Tom Williams, Olly Wilson

U15 Boys: Ben Ashmore, Jorge Beltrao, Tiago Beltrao, Charlie Dugdale, Matthew Hall, Sol Harris-Woodfin, Jonathon Hodson, Luke Newell, Sam Shaw, Jack Westley, Beckett Whiting, Zak Wort

Athletes of the match: U13 girls Gemma Watts, U13 boys Olly Wilson, U15 girls Jasmine Woodroffe, U15 boys Beckett Whiting.

An improved turnout and good performances, not least in the relays, this time gave us the edge over Hillingdon and Camberley in the very tight midfield of our division. The points from this match have put quite some space between us and the relegation positions, so we can now enjoy the rest of the season a bit more relaxed - with hopefully plenty more excellent individual and team performances to celebrate.

The next YDL match is on Sunday (!) 21 June in Portsmouth.
