On a blustery and cool summers day at Sutton`s David Weir arena, Kingston and Polytechnic`s female athletes once again overpowered the best Surrey has to offer with a comprehensive win to retain their league title for the third successive year.
Again there were several outstanding performances and PB`s amongst the under 13 girls. These included Phoebe Pollington pbs in 200m and a great 2nd place javelin, Isobel Bibby 800m + Javelin, Gemma Watts in the 1500m (2nd), Jessica Lilywhite in the 200m, Kira Holt High Jump and Zoe Shepherd in the shot.
Our under 15 girls also produced a number of personal best performances. Lucy Tunnacliffe followed a PB in the 200m with a win the shot. Kathryn Bartle won the 1500metres, and Eleanor McDonnell also achieved PB’s in 200m and shot. Louisa Stoney achieved a new high jump best despite having to rush off to hurdles after her first jump. Other PB’s included Hollie Hennessy long jump and discus, Imogen Busa high jump and Eleanor Church who kindly agreed to run the 800m at very short notice; she also got a hammer PB.
Under 17 PB`s were also in abundance and a few notable efforts included Leila Legris in the hurdles, Jessica Westley in the Hammer. Amelia Maguire had a fine day with new best marks in the High Jump and the Shot. Rebecca Keddie also continued her fine form by bagging 300m and 800m bests as did Chloe Kimber in the Shot. Not to be outdone by her sister Isabella Busa also managed a fine 800m personal best.
Our U11s were in good form too with new personal bests and a great run in the relay.
So another successful Lily B campaign and with the cup final still to play for later in the season. Our girls will be called on for one more last big effort at Kingsmeadow on the 29th August to cap what has been a most enjoyable and successful season. The aim of course will be a third League/ Cup double.!!
A huge thank you to all those athletes that have competed in events they would perhaps rather avoid, and have filled in at short notice, we have even had girls juggling 2 events at the same time. As usual the atmosphere and team spirit have shone through and we hope that everyone has enjoyed themselves, after all that is what counts most, the rest is all a bonus.
A big thank you to all the officials Colin Watts, Maurice Joyce, Beverley & Paul Tunnacliffe and anyone else who helped on the day, we really appreciate your support.
A huge thank you to David Barrington whose mere presence inspires, it was great to have you at the match and your support was invaluable.
Enjoy the Summer break but please make sure you keep the 29th of August free, we need as many people as possible if we are to have a hope of winning the cup.
