The second match of the Surrey Ladies Cross Cross country league saw our team head to West End Common, Esher. Differing greatly from the last match, our athletes this time had to navigate a tough muddy and undulating course in very wet and windy conditions! Despite the conditions, it was pleasing to have an excellent turnout, particularly for the Senior race, with very good results achieved all round – well done team K&P.
Senior & Veteran Ladies
The Senior race comprised another large field of over 400 athletes running the challenging 6.4K course. K&P’s senior team welcomed back Phoebe Law (U20) who had an outstanding race – despite a fall in the later stages of the race, she secured her first outright league victory in a fantastic time of 24:14. Phoebe was followed home by Nadia Allan (U20) consolidating her last match debut with a 25th place finish in division 2 with a time of 29:33. The race perhaps came a little too soon for our next 2 athletes - Liz Richardson, still recovering from a recent marathon (51st – 32:15) and Nicky Atkins, as always enjoying a very busy cross country season, finished in 61st place (32:53). The ‘A’ team was completed by another solid performance from Jo Aherne in 70th place (33:49) to achieve a very good overall team point score.
The excellent turnout also saw a rare complete ‘B’ team finish with Nicki Murphy in 79th place (34:21), Avelline Deighton 102nd with a time of 36:02, followed by mother and daughter - Rosaline Darby (113th – 36:45) and Susannah Darby (141st – 39:22). The team was completed by Caroline Jeffcote whom, despite an injury scare, navigated the course successfully to finish in 180th place (45:04).
Our ladies team strength and commitment was rewarded with a fine 5th place finish for the ‘A’ team (of 24 teams). The ‘B’ team also finished in 5th place - in another very strong field of 187 finishers in Division 2. Very well done and thanks to all that raced or supported the team.
After a mid-season break the next match will be held at Priory Park, Reigate on 16th January 2016. Anyone wishing to join the team should please contact Liz Richardson for further information.
Round 2 of the Surrey Ladies XC League saw again a reasonable turnout of K&P girls. With injuries and busy schedule clashes preventing some of our regular runners from racing, we did still manage to field a complete U15 team who were all inspired by watching Phoebe win the Senior race just before the Juniors got underway. Kathryn Bartle (19:53 – 20th) was the first K&P girl to complete a very muddy and hilly 4.3km course. She was followed by Imogen Busa (20:40 – 26th), Annabel Hobday (20:41 – 27th) and Eleanor Bartle (22:52 – 32nd). This placed the K&P team 6th out of the 14 teams on the day.
Our lone representative in the U13 race was Esme Cerilli, who had a great race over the challenging 3.2km course to finish strongly in a time of 16:59 (49th/64).
Well done to all of our athletes and also to all the parents for getting the athletes there and for providing great support on a very windy and rainy afternoon!
