After a great double win last year (League & Cup), the first match-day this year was always going to be an important one.
The weather was a mixed bag. Warm when the sun was out, cold when it wasn’t with an occasional breeze and some rain at times to add to the mix. This made it difficult for the athletes to compete at their best, however there were still quite a few PBs. These, along with all of our results, added up to another emphatic victory of over 80 points!

Once again we had a good turn out for the under 11’s with 4 girls trying out sprints, 600m or Long Jump. We were particularly impressed with the U11’s relay who, perhaps with the help from some quick fingered timekeepers, posted a faster time than the U13 A String!!!
Our U13 team of 12 won 6 events and were top 3 in 17 events. Well done girls.
We had a strong turnout for the U15’s with a total of 14 girls. They managed 7 event wins and a total 18 top 3 finishes.
Our special mention for the U13 & U15’s goes to Bronwyn and Nellwyn Ackroyd who filled in events where we had gaps or injuries on the day. This flexibility really helps the team out.
For our U17’s our team of 13 was superior to most of the other teams and we picked up quite a few wins. In fact there were 17 wins including the 4x100m Relay. Newcomer Charlotte picked up 2 great wins one being a massive Javelin Throw of 21.98m.
Some people had events very close together and for me the special mention of the day goes to Jessica Westley who ran between the Hammer Throw and Pole Vault picking up 2 wins and many valuable points for the team.
Athlete of the match T-shirts to Emilia Chittenden (U13), Zoe Shepherd (U15) & Charlotte Willis-Sloanes (U17).
Thank you also to Frank, Susanne, Maurice, Paul Tunnacliffe, Susan Westley and Kim Hennessy for helping out on the day with official duties and team management. A thank you also to Harry Reynolds for providing some coaching and helping out during the day. Please accept my apologies if I have missed anyone.
A big win is a good start but next up we will be up against one of our biggest sprint rivals Herne Hill Harriers so we will be relying on a good turn out for match-day 2 (5th June).
You can find photos and the individual results on the next 2 page.
Thanks to you all
James
