The final SCVAL meeting was on Monday 11th July hosted by Croydon Harriers / Striders of Croydon. The afternoon consisted of heavy downpours and another damp evening of competing was expected. Fortunately the rain held off until the competition was almost over.
There was only four ladies in the K&P ladies team, all of us helping to scoop up the points by doing multi-events. Susanne Dietrich – 100m, 2000m walk, discus, triple jump, javelin, high jump and 4th leg in the 4 x 100m relay. Susanne also felt unwell on the day and unfortunately suffered an injury during the walk but still carried on. Liz Richardson – 400m, 1500m, high jump and 2nd leg in the 4 x 100m relay. Liz had also ran 800m & 1500m in the Rosenheim league the previous Wednesday and 5000m, 1500m, 1500m S/C and a leg in the 4 x 400m at the SAL on the Saturday. Caroline Jeffcote – 100m, 400m, 1500m and 1st leg of the 4 x 100m relay. Nicky Atkins – 100m,2000m walk, 400m, 1500m and 3rd leg in the 4 x 100m relay. I must mention that this was an evening meeting and all of the events took place from 6.30pm field / 7.10pm track to 8.45pm relay, resulting in very little recovery time between each event.
The excellent news is that all of the team effort, commitment and dedication was awarded with 106 points meaning we came 2nd place. Epsom & Ewell Harriers finished 1st after collecting 176 points with Croydon coming in 3rd position with 78 points. I am also very pleased to announce that after the four matches K&P finished 2nd (372 points) place to Epsom and Ewell Harriers (607 points). Well done team!
A big thank you to all of the ladies who competed this season in the SCVAL. Also a thank you to all of the officials and supporters, as you all made the SCVAL a success.
