Veterans League Croydon 18 July - men's report
A small team depleted by holidays injury and the traffic delays caused by bad weather earlier in the afternoon, secured our third place in the division for the season by coming fourth on the night behind new divisional champions Hercules Wimbledon, Epsom and Striders.
On the track we had two wins. Matt Atkins showed he can win 1500m as well as he did over the longer distances earlier in the season. David Bell took the m50 walk, and also filled in at 1500. Simon Byway making his individual scoring debut in the league got three second places at 100, 400 and 4 X 100 relay (with Mike May Andy Gordon and Cameron Barlow). Mike, Cameron and Chuck Isetts got our other track points.
On the field we had one win, the m50 shot, from Renzo di Libero. We might have had more but Rob Lowe had been involved in a car accident and didn't make it to Croydon (he's OK except for a sore neck). In the javelin we had two second places from
Cameron in the m35 and Graham Huntley in the m60, while your TM did a token throw in the m50 to not lose all the points when it became evident Rob would not be coming. Frank Schubert and David Barrington completed our line up of field eventers. Thanks to David for fulfilling our field judging obligations as well.
