Lily B Match day 3 – Guildford
02nd July 2016
So to our third and final Lily B league match of the season and nothing else but a win could guarantee us the
league win. In the week following up to the match we had a number of withdrawals due to injuries and other
reasons. This meant that those who came had to push hard and in some case compete in events they weren’t
used to, in order to keep the points coming in. However, despite notable absentees, we won the match by a
reasonable margin of 20 points!!!
The weather was fairly warm but interjected with major downpours. This was our lowest turnout with only had
26 point scoring athletes compared to the massive team of 39 we had for our first match at Kingsmeadow. This
just shows the effort that the athletes put in.
1 Kingston AC & Poly Harriers 306
2 Croydon Harriers 243.5
3 Herne Hill Harriers 219.5
4 Sutton & District AC 97
5 Walton AC 78
6 Dorking & Mole Valley AC 48
Only 2 girls turned out for the U11’s so there was no chance for a relay. We hope we have at least 4 girls at the
Lily B Cup on 27 Aug 2016.
Our U13 team of only 8, managed 10 PBs between them. Notable performances for Kira Holt with a 12.3s in
the 70m Hurdles and for Jojo Maclean registering 2 PBs in the 800m and Discus Throw.
The U15 turn out was slightly better with a total of 10 girls. They managed 11 event wins and a massive total
18 top 3 finishes. Notable athletes here were Lucy Tunnacliffe and Jasmine Woodroffe with new PBs in the 75m
Hurdles, Amelia Bell with a new PB in the 200m and Jessica Lillywhite registered 3 new PBs in the 100m, 200m
and Javelin. A special mention to Katie Lyons who, for the first time in competition, helped the team out by
running the 800m coming in a respectable 2nd place.
For our U17’s our small team of 8 athletes still managed to pick up 9 wins. Notable athletes in the U17’s were
Eleanor Church with a Triple Jump PB, Leila Legris with a PB in the 80m Hurdles and Eleanor McDonnell
getting a new PB in the 300m. There was a massive new PB in the 300m Hurdles for Jessica Westley shaving
over 2s of her previous best.
Athlete of the match T-shirts to Jojo Maclean (U13 – Scoring 13 points and 2 PBs), Lucy Tunnacliffe (U15 -
Scoring 17 points and 2 PBs) & Rhianna Reynolds (U17 – Scoring a maximum 18 points with 3 wins!).
However the special mention of the meeting goes to Eleanor Church, a sprinter, who helped the team out by
running the 800m B string and picking up maximum points!
Thank you also to Susanne Dietrich, Maurice Joyce, Colin Watts, Rory McFarlane, Susan Westley, Brian
McLean, Paul Tunnacliffe and Bruce Shepherd for helping out on the day with official duties. Team coaching
and warm ups from Pat Logan and Richard Holt. Please accept my apologies if I have missed anyone.
This win puts us joint top of the league table with Guildford & Goldalming and Croydon. All three clubs had 2
wins and a second place (remember that there were 2 matches running on each match day), however on
individual points scored we topped the League! WELL DONE EVERYONE!!!! We won the Lily B League again.
Next up is the Lily B cup on 27th August 2016 at Epsom & Ewell AC.
