London Youth Games report & Downs League M2 report
Dear athletes, families and friends,
We had great runs of our athletes at the London Youth Games on 19 November at Parliament Hill, but I only have space for a short summary – I hope I have extracted all names correctly: U17M- Aaron Bruce 28th, Gabriel Lewis 39th, Sol Harris-Woodfin 40th, George Chaplin 41st; U15B-Oliver Haines-Francis 41st, Jack Dickson 50th, Olly Wilson 89th; U13B-Matteo Leforestier 122nd, U11B-Charlie White 7th, U17W-Kathryn Bartle 24th, Rebecca Keddie 52nd, Eleanor Bartle 59th, U15G Imogen Busa 122nd, U13 Alix Baccardax 80th, Poppy Parry 141; U11G Daisy Parry 15th, Hannah Choudhury 34th. With almost 200 runners in each race, they did great.
Just now, the results from Sunday 4/12’s Downs League match No2 came through. I can report that we had excellent individual results and a win - which I will not give away as yet. We suffered a number of illnesses, injuries and a fall, which of course can happen. Sadly, as this took out 3 of our previous top 5 U11 runners, it of course dragged down theirteam score. Well, we’ll have to bounce back, and we will. This is how we fared:
The U11 team was led home by a fabulous Sam Atkins in 11:03 and 7th place; he improved his PB by 19s and with the score from match 1 and match 2 added up, he is 11th on the overall boys’ score list. Next home was Oscar Lloyd-Davies in 12:17 and 20th place; he is 13th boy overall. Then came Ava John in 12:38 and 30th place/ 7th girl who hopefully won’t “hate” cross countries that much anymore when she learns that she took 20s of her previous time and is now joined 4thgirl. We then had Oscar Nicholas who in 13:08 and 41st place equalled his PB (28th boy overall), followed by Hannah Chowdhury who despite knee pains finished in 13:10, 42ndplace/ 10th girl, sharing the 4th position with Ava. We closed with Finnian Chang in 13:56 and 65th place (31st boy) and Brody Skinner in 14:46 and 62nd place (38th boy). Given that we lacked quite some runners, it is very respectable that theteam finished 5th on the day, overall holding on to 4th- well done U11s.
Our U13s had a very good day, most of them running close to or achieving new PBs. Max Dickson was the first to score, 5thplace, 11:50, new PB by a whopping 45s; he is joined 6thoverall. He was followed by Michael Webb-Bourne in 12:58 and 15th place, overall 10th. We then witnessed a breath-taking sprinting battle between Matteo Leforestier and Dominic Fellows – how did the lads muster the strength? On the finish line, Matteo had the nose in front, and in 13:13 he clocked a new PB by 12s. He came 18th on the day and is 12th overall. Dominic in 13:15 improved his PB by 29s, came 19th on the day and is 15th overall. In 20th place/3rd girl and 13:21, EvieWilkinson gave her Downs League campaign a nice boost as she is now leading the overall girls’ rankings. A very strong run saw Alix Baccardax finish in 13:32 and 23rd place (new PB by 43s) and she rose to 5th place on the leader board. She was followed in close succession by Sebastian Chang (33rdplace, 14:01, new PB by 15s), Poppy Parry (34th place/9th girl, 14:02, new PB by 16s) and Jacob Skinner (35th place, 14:03, new PB by 8s). This effort earned Jacob 23rd and Seb 26thoverall positions, respectively, while Poppy is 7th girl. We finished with Frey John in 14:21 and 41st place/13th girl and Esme Cerilli in 15:12, 46th place/ 16th girl, and they are 8th and 9th girl overall. The team finished 3rd on the day, beaten by 2ndplaced Holland Sports by a mere 6 points. Our efforts – and other teams slipping down the table - saw us move up to 2ndplace – a great achievement!
Our U15s were the stars of the day. They showed real team spirit, motivated each other and worked for the team. It was great that Eric Williams was available this time as he led the team home in 11:09 and 4th place. He was followed by Jack Dickson in 11:32 and 7th place, Jack Stracey in 11:44 and 8thplace, Olly Wilson with a season’s best in 11:58 and 11th place and high jumper Freddie Crosby also with a seasons’ best in 14:28 and 30th place. The boys won the match; they are 2ndoverall, just 6 points behind HHH. Yes, we can’t be complacent and we need the athletes to come out, but I believe we can mount a bid for the U15 trophy. I am up for it with all the packets of biscuits it requires!
