SAL season starts with a great cooperation between junior and senior athletes.

A very notable fresh breeze blew through our Southern Athletics League (SAL) team this Saturday, with 10 U17 athletes and 6 U20 athletes supporting 14 Seniors and 7 Masters, contributing very valuable points and featuring in all relays. In fact, on the women’s side, our junior athletes collected 40.5 of the 75 points (excluding relays), and for the first time since ages, the women made nearly as many points as the men (80 versus 98, including the relays)! This brought us near level with the winners (2nd place by 0.5 points), and had we filled just one more track event, we would have won the match.

Considering that junior athletes have to throw the much heavier senior implements and negotiate the higher senior hurdles, the achievements of our young athletes are even more commendable. Many thanks to our established stalwarts for welcoming our juniors in the team, and a full praise for all our juniors who came! We coaches and TMs know that there are school exams looming, and your main competitions are the YDL matches and for the U17 women, also the LilyB matches. But I am sure I can speak for all of our seniors when I say: please come to the SAL again – you were great!
