id188-February Round Up

Written by DB

A gi-normous turnout by K&P standards, for a 9 Miles, assisted ably as usual by Thames, saw 29 on the start line. Mark Reed made an early bid to acquire the K&P JC Brewer Trophy from the holder,Andy Arbour, and the presence of Thames' captain,Dave Symons, ensured he was soon clear and a worthy winner. In the team race,Thames' early packing gave them a comfortable win, with K&P pleased indeed to have Nicky Atkins & Catherine Reed 'on board'.

Her individual marks of 9.35 60H,1.76 HJ,11.16 SP & 5.71 LJ were excellent though the 800 in 2.55.38 was again rather ban uphill struggle!

It was not surprisingly rather bitter on the Downs for the 3rd of the 4 League fixtures on Feb 20 but Nicky Atkins was able to gather a dozen youngsters.Sam Bryant led our U11s in in 10th(14.03) with Nicolaj Schubert 14th(16.01) & Daria Holden 15th(17.31) - the team was 4th and is 3rd overall. In the U13s,we had 5 runners and were led home by Edmund Croall in 5th(14.04),then Molly Renfer 8th(15.09),Jonathan Miller 9th(15.18) & Francesca Currie 10th(17.31).Phoebe Haynes injured her knee and sensibly withdrew.Teamwise,we were 2nd and are 2nd overall. The weekend of Feb 19/20 indoor results saw Dominique Blaize,in the AAA U20 Champs at the NIA, below her Valencia form of the previous week, though still collecting a silver in the LJ(5.64) and placing 6th= in the HJ(1.66).Sasha Gordon took 10th in the TJ at 11.06.
