RBK SENIOR TEAM OF 2017
Congratulations are due once again to our Senior Men who competed in the British Athletics League team. Their magnificent achievement in winning the BAL Division 2 Championship and promotion to Division 1 (thus securing a place amongst the top 16 teams in the nation) has now been recognized by the Royal Borough Of Kingston upon Thames.
Kingston AC & Polytechnic Harriers’ Men’s BAL team has received the Award for RBK’s “Senior Team Of The Year”, beating excellent competition from across the Royal Borough. The judging criteria for the Award deemed a team to comprise “2 or more people”, so a wide range of performances was eligible and K&P probably had the largest team, numbers-wise, to be nominated.
On 15th November BAL Team Manager Chris Hall, and members of the successful team who could make it, were celebrated at the Royal Borough of Kingston’s Gala Sports Awards Ceremony, held in the Guildhall. In the presence of the Deputy Mayor, Councilors, Senior Officers of the Royal Borough, and other excellent Sports Award winners, the team was presented with medals after their achievements had been extolled by the Host - Olympian, Mark Richardson, fittingly an athlete himself. The team was warmly applauded, not least by the loyal band of K&P supporters in the audience.
The Royal Borough also provided medals for those who were unable to attend. These are now held by Mark Hall and will be given to eligible BAL team members when he next sees them.
It was a very enjoyable night and an especial pleasure to see Kingston & Poly recognized alongside so many sporting high achievers on the regional, national and international stages. As Councilor Andy Johnson-Creek, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Sport at RBK, said: “A truly awe-inspiring evening. I’m amazed at the level of dedication and passion that stems from our Royal Borough and the results, both national and international. Here’s to another record breaking year of sport in Kingston!” Amen to that and let’s work hard to ensure that Kingston & Poly are leading the way once again.
