id1980-Lily B Match 2 Report- 1st June 2019

Written by Nina and Susy

The 2nd Lily B match of the season was at Walton sports Hub and a very successful day it was too, with another amazing win for the girls at Kingston & Poly. The sunshine, that the team managers ordered, was once again in abundance!

1. Kingston & Poly

2. Croydon Harriers

3. Herne Hill Harriers

4. Holland Sports

5. Sutton & District

6. Dorking & Mole Valley

We knew this match was going to be tough against some mighty opposition. It really did come down to the wire. As we left the ground, we were still none the wiser as to whether the team had enough points to win. We were thin on the ground with regards to the under 17 team and lost valuable points there. A special thank you to those that stepped in to cover some events as without this we certainly would not have clinched the win.

It is certainly difficult when the match runs so far behind schedule as some people couldn’t stay to cover their event, so we lost quite a few points. We also lost 2 B relay teams and almost two A relay teams at one point, which could easily have cost us the match, so we really appreciate everyone that stayed until the end of the day.

Special thanks once again to all the parents who helped with the javelin which was our designated event for the day. Bryony met some of the younger girls and helped them with their warm-ups which was much appreciated, so many thanks to her, and thanks also to Pat who came along to support. Also, a big thank you to our level 2 field judge, David Hillyer, who did a grand job and to our timekeeper, Maurice Joyce.

Once again there were some amazing performances and many PBs. Under 15’s had 9 athletes, Under 13’s had 8 athletes, under 17’s had 7 athletes, and under 11’s had 6 girls this time.

All the U11’s got at least one PB, well done to you all! Welcome to Lucy Rutt who has just joined the team. Special mention to Amelia Rowbotham who ran a great 600m in a time of 2.01.5.

Most U13’s got at least one PB. Ava John ran a fantastic 200m race in a time of 27 .0 seconds which was a PB and won her the race. Serenna Kochhar & Caitlin Pemberton both had PB’s in the 800m in 2nd place (A & B string). Eva Cerelli produced a great discus throw to win the A string with a PB of 13.67m. Thanks to Calla Lazou who volunteered to swap events to the high jump, got three PBs and scored a massive 20 points for the team

For the U15’s, Ellen-Ada Barlow had a good day with two PBs - first in the hurdles with 14 seconds and also in the discus throwing 14.42m. Hannah Choudhury showed another pleasing improvement to her shot putt with a PB of 6.78m. Jemima Harcourt surprised herself with 2 sprint PBs for 100m 12.9 seconds and took 1 second off her 200m PB 27.5 seconds. Jemyra Keeya is showing real promise in all her throwing events with PBs in javelin, shot putt and hammer. Sophie Doherty won the long jump in a PB of 4.89m. Tejal Ramphul scored valuable points and came 2nd in the 300m as she took on this event for the first time.

Moving onto U17’s … Emilia Chittenden had a great day with 3 PBs in total, Lucy Atkins won both her 100 and 200m races with PBs 12.7 & 26.3 seconds. Caitlin Paul switched to cover discus and won her event with 16.2m. Maddison Hutton came 2nd in 100m B string with a PB of 12.8 seconds & an amazing 1st place throw of 11.49m in the shot. Well done to Natalie Miller for scoring a full 21 points for the team!

It was a great team spirit once again and everyone had a fantastic day. As team managers, we are eagerly looking forward to the next Lily B match on Sun 7th July in Guildford, where we hope all our athletes will join us to continue this winning streak. Bring it on!
