In condusive weather and surroundings at Eton, and in a well-organised meet, the SWL team commenced with a reassuring 2nd place in the opening 2005 fixture and occupy 9th place in the 25-team 6-match division at this very early stage - Scores:AFD 232.5/K&P 170/WSEH 166/WSuffolk 122/WimbornePoole 85.5
Team Captain,Camilla Thrush, not unusually, led from the front with 2 victories(HT 34.91 & SP 10.17),adding another Club V35 record in the JT(27.07).Injuries hindered one or two,and with future battles ahead in mind, full throttle was sensibly kept in reserve, but there was much over which to enthuse.Dominique Blaize(LJ 5.58) & Sarah Harris(200 26.1) trimmed U20 records and will surely obliterate those and others later and our other 3 in that age group- Mlles Whatley,Gordon & Hatton- were much in evidence.Rachel Burbridge(3k 11.00.6),Debbie Raymond(1B PV),Gunhild Vogel(2A PV), Liz Richardson & Clare Nelson, together with U17s Claire Stonestreet(1A 200&LJ) and Amy Simmons, picked up good points along the way and, with the 4x100 team taking maximum(50.7),the senior squad scored relatively better than the U15s. In the latter group, just 5 carried the flag - Harriet Lester(1A LJ 4.70),Roseanne Mackay(2B 200 28.1),Mary Iheke(2A 200 27.6 & HJ 1.40),Amy Trimble(2B DT) & sole U13 Phoebe Haynes(1B 75H 15.4),plus a 2nd place in the 4x100(54.3) - but they helped significantly in keeping our noses in front of WSEH for a final satisfactory 170 point haul.Full results will be on the Club Noticeboard at Kingsmeadow.
