id244-SVL SWLondonDivision M3 Kingston June 20th 2005 Report

Written by DB

On a balmy Kingsmeadow evening, both K&P Men's and Women's teams consolidated their comfortable 2nd placings, though one felt the nasty recurrence of John Ratcliff's achilles injury in warm-up(after driving from Somerset again) prevented the men from giving E&E a bigger fright.

Short M40 sprint victories for Pat Logan(12.3) & Mike May(13.5) gave the Men an initial impetus and, with further prime place success from Chuck Isetts(M60 400 66.2),David Bell(M40 1500 4.51.5),Pat Logan(M40 LJ 4.81),Les Hatton(M50 HT 25.58) & the Medley Relay squad(4.22.8),we were always hard on the heels of the league leaders.A very handy M60 5000 in 18.57.3 from Bob McDonough,a useful M60 SP from Maurice Joyce(9.33) and game John Ratcliff-subs efforts from Graham Huntley left us just out of touch at the death - E&E 156,K&P 140,Croydon 115 etc.

The Women also challenged E&E strongly with wins for Nicki Murphy(W35 B 100),for Rachel Disley in a stirring W35 1500(5.16.7) and for Camilla Thrush(W35 JT/HT) & Mary Waddington(W50 TJ + 2 PBs). There was also a welcome debut from Rebecca Horner(mum to the triplets) in the W35 100/Relay,whilst Alison Jones, running as a n/s in the 5000,broke the Club Vets record with 21.04.3..Scores were E&E 119,K&P 94,Croydon 59 etc.
