id336-Club Championships(2) Richmond Park 3rd December 2005 Report

Written by DB/RM

Most of our leading winter performers contested the David Pool 7 Miles Trophy, which was heartening and, indeed, how it should be.

A group of 8 swiftly broke away on the shorter of the two laps, with the going slippery after another cloudburst simliar to that which heralded the 5 Miles championship race in October. Paul Haywood, running in his first K&P club championship race, was champing at the bit but was unsure of the course in places;however,by the commencement of the 4 mile loop, had stretched away from former holders,Andy Arbour & Mark Reed. Nick Gould of THH managed to split this trio away from the rest at the finish, ahead of guesting U20 Martin Marshall(E&E),with his coach,Mike Maranzano & 2004 winner,Ant Budarkiewicz within a minute. Alex Thomas was 8th home, with fellow U20 Ron Taylor, who had run the Bushy Park race in the morning, understandably trailing. Three of our Senior ladies contested with Avelline Deighton first home in 12th,ahead of Nicky Atkins, also a glutton for punishment as another who ran the Bushy Park morning event! Ant Budarkiewicz(M45) just held off Bob McDonough(M60) by a few seconds in the calculation for the Pat Wilks Veterans Handicap Trophy. The full details are on the Results Menu. Thanks to those who braved the elements once again around the park - Mary W/Brenda F/Doris D/Maurice J/Pat L/David D/Peter W/Alan D etc. Good to see Humphrey & Cashel in support, too.
