DCL levelled the series at 2 matches apiece but there will be doubts over any further fixtures after both volunteer refs took exception to what seems sadly to be considered acceptable behaviour at all levels of soccer these days - not dirty play, just 'mouth'. It may be a case of 'not going into the kitchen if you cannot stand the heat',but it's no wonder there is a refereeing shortage - and this is only meant to be an afternoon's pleasure!
The standard of play on both sides was higher than in the first three years and, with respect to all,the DCL players looked a tad more comfortable on the ball. The K&P side, hardly any of whom play regularly,if at all and who, thankfully, are not at all inclined to be fractious, matched the DCL selection early on and took the lead when Owen Lewis foraged and scrambled the ball home.Thereafter, once DCL had equalised, the tide went against the K&P team despite some tidy play in midfield and some solid defence, with the exuberance and commitment of Mike Maran',Mark & Nick yet again epitomising all they do for K&P wherever. By the 3rd quarter,DCL had forged into a 6-1 lead, but the club's side took the final quarter with goals from Trevor Murphy(pen) and Nick Owen to end up on the wrong end of a 6-3 scoreline. Many thanks to those who played, some for less than the full schedule - Horace Nelson,Sionne Gordon,Mark Roberts,Michael Huntley,Richard Holt,Jamie Mackay,Owen Lewis,Trevor Murphy,Andy Govus,Andy Mackintosh,Gavin Simmons,Gawain Owen,Nick Owen & Mike Maranzano. Thanks also to Graham Huntley & John Simmons who ran the line and to Jamie Mackay & your Jt Gen Sec who shared the refereeing duties;and cheers to those who came along to cheer us on!
